Default Blagdon – Early Season

Fished Blagdon Monday, a traditional early season foray. Not the best conditions with rain on and off all day.

JonT and Nick Strang manage a fish each on the south sure to buzzers but Pete and I were struggling to even get a touch.

It wasn't freezing cold but with waders full of water (thought I'd got all those holes with aquasure) it wasn't exactly cosy.

After lunch Pete and I decided to make our way over to the North Shore which had been fishing well earlier in the week. I was made welcome by a kindly regular in a spot just east of Ash trees, who had all but bagged up on stockies. We both managed a nice brace of rainbows and were just about to pack up when the shout went up from Pete, "it's a big one', and so the battle began...

Thanks for the replies fellas.

Yes, it's was not very sensitive of me to complain about the weather down here. I'm hoping one day spring will arrive, the fish will rise and we'll catch them, forgetting all about the wind/snow/rain.

BTW, the fish was taken on a plain black lure, a fly which has a habit of turning up nice browns for Pete.

Cheers

Jon

JJO - I think that the first picture in your report, of the hand holding the rod and looking down the line, with the rain coming down, is excellent. Really nice photo. Really atmospheric.

Oh yeah, that's a fine brownie too.

Wonderful looking fish Glad it was released... I'll be having two days on Blagdon in a months time, and would not mind in the slightest if it jumped on my leader
