Default Eventful day at Mentieth

Fished here on Saturday with my club, first outing of the season.

Headed up towards Loch End to start but started a drift further right than Loch End, not sure what it was called. Armed with a (new) DI7 and an orange booby and cats whisker on the dropper I hooked into a fish on my first cast. First time I have successfully landed a fish on my first cast. Hooked one at Burnhouse a couple of months ago and spoke to soon and lost it. Anyhoo, a nice over wintered fish of about a pound and three quarters at a guess.

Then I hit sod all, for hours. We were fishing Loch End and people were catching. I persevered with the boobies for a while and gave up. Not too far from the shore my boat partner Agnes hooked into a fish on blob on a roly poly retrieve. Upon netting the fish it became apparent there was another fish on the point fly! Cue a frantic grab for the fish! Both safely despatched.

As is customary I encountered my first birds nest of the day and pulled my line back in. Missing the next drift where Agnes caught again. Upon firing up the somewhat temperamental engine my rod just about shot into the water. Yes you've guessed it the drift had slowly pulled my line into the water and the prop decided to munch it up. Thankfully we managed to row to a jetty and I had to cut the line (had changed to an old DI3 thankfully). ******.

To top that off on another drift on my forward cast I felt a knock on my hand, cue one yellow and orange blob stuck in my knuckle up to the bend in the hook. FFS! Thankfully one of the other boys in the club in a nearby boat (apologies I can't remember your name if you are reading this!) came to my rescue, line passed under the body of the fly, I pressed down on the eye and yank out it came. Relatively painless considering.

Finally I caught a brownie, on the same blob! And later on the road shore another rainbow.

To top off the day I left my teabags in the house so couldn't even make a brew!

Fishing!

Bring on the next outing!
