Fished it today, boat was bagged up at 10:45, the fishing is too easy. Near enough a fish a chuck, we took breaks for coffee to slow down the catch rate.
The fish for your info were at the back of the island, deep and taking static and slow pulls, blobs and black and green fritz.

The guy running the counter didn't know anything about fishing, nice chap but not a fisher.

With the fishing so easy and no catch and release I don't feel it's value for money although the fish fought fine and had full tails, they averaged a bit over 2lb apiece.

Default Beecraigs not at the races

Hi Chappies,

I can second that, no longer seem to be the large trout Beecraigs were famous for. Me and my buddie also bagged up very quickly fishing deep and slow with black/green mini cats etc. and got a bit fed up, all the fish were just over two pounds in weight.

Very expensive for what it is now - Bowden springs with boats (no disrespect to Bowden).

Enjoyed my visits to Linlithgow better recently, challanging and top conditioned fish, not as expensive either.

I'm there on Sunday with the auld man, do you think it will be fishing the same way?
I'm in the same boat, used to like it but after finding out the cost for this year I think it will be our 1st and last.

I wouldn't worry too much mate - you should do well!

We normaly start off at the other side of the airiator/
island off the dam wall, intermediate and mini cats
standard or black/green with a blob or cormorant on
the dropper fished very slow (intermediate or slow
glass, maybae midge tip when it heats up a tad mid
day) done us proud and the weather/cold hasn't
changed much since we were out.

Off the big island done us good as well, not a fan of round
the back of the island but some boats had success.

If all else fails a single booby on a di 3 trundled along the
bottom will catch as usual.

Think you would catch a few whatever tactic you went for
though, it has been that easy lately -the fish we have caught
averaged 2-2.5 lbs

Think you will have a good day, I would be interested in
knowing if you would go back.

Good luck bud!

Not too much to report from yesterday's outing!
Spoke to the guy in the hut in the morning, fishing's been really slow for the past 3-4 day. Great just my luck!
After trying every tactic I could think of I ended up with 2! Dropped another 2 and missed a couple but a very slow and hard day!
Not one boat came off with their limit, the most was 6 fish when I weighed in.
Never mind was still good to get my first days fishing of the year.
I must admit that the quality of the fish has drastically increased, full fined and hard fighting for a change.

Interesting mate,

I am going to leave it for a while, far to expensive now for what it is although good point regarding the quality, take it all fish were around a couple of pounds still?

Aye always good to get out whatever but beecraigs is dissapointing now compared to what it used to be, bring back the fish farm!!

My mate was up the other day and he made a few decent points why he would always choose Linlitghow over Beecraigs now, price and the fact Linlithgow allow catch and release (controlled).

I think the standard of fisheries round here has dropped a bit, the water at Linlithgow never looks healthy, not sure where I would head to now!!!

Yeah they were all around the same size, my weight was 5lb3oz for the two fish.
Was thinking about trying crosswood and Linlithgow, how hard is it to get dates at Linlithgow?

I was on beecraigs. 2weeks ago.I had my limit by 9.45 including a 9lb fish boat limit by 12.30 for 32lb all boats off the water by 1pm with limits bags. 1 fish of 11lb,1of 10lb's and mines of 9lb. most fish along roadshore. my 9lb'r from behind island.all fish taken on red goldbead tadpole good quality fish.It needs C&R,but a lot of folk can't do it properly, that's why it's banned.
