Default Colwick 2010

Anyone fish Colwick opening weekend ?
Looking to fish there in the next week or so, but never fished it before.
Any methods/areas much appreciated as there seems to be little info on the tin ternet....

Hi Mary,

Have not fished Colwick for a while, but it usually does well early and late season - gets a bit weedy in the summer. The Wardens are usually quite helpful, suggest you phone them on 0115 987 0785.

Fond memories of Colwick - learnt to fly fish there in my Nottm days, about 15 years ago! (when I wasn't barbelling on 't Trent that is). Best area for me was usually the far bank opposite the lodge, generally lures - black and green tadpoles and the proverbial cats whisker, although in a smaller size 10 goldhead variant, especially early season. Some good buzzer and top of the water sport to be had when it warms up, including off a boat with traditional wets, palmers etc. The booby lads used to do well off the bank if thats your thing (and if its still allowed). I always remember one of the old boy locals teaching me the "Colwick Walk" which he/they used to do: chuck lure out as far as poss straight in front, walk 10 yards to side, begin retrieve, repeat along bank!

Anyway have fun, let us know how you get on

just remembered....even when fishing a lure on the point I always use to have a black buzzer or corixa(!) on a dropper and it used to pick up quite a few fish, especially if I'd slowed the retrieve down
