Default Errwood Reservoir

The 2010 season, despite the appalling weather, got off to a flier with plenty of fish in the 1 3/4 - 2 1/2lb range being caught mainly to black, green and orange lures. A few fish between 3 and 5lb also showed in catches noticeably to smaller patterns fished slow and deep.

Fish seem to be tightly shoaled but moving around the water, so fishing light and mobile paid dividends.

Fish of the day was a stunning 12 1/2lb+ fish caught by Tony Delli Colli on a small green lure fished on an inter line. The rainbow, a new EFFC record, was returned unharmed to the water.

More information about EFFC can be found on their website at www.effc.co.uk. Please note day tickets are not available at the water.

Only 5 days later and the Club record has fallen again with this 13lb lump.
This fish was taken on an orange and green fritz, on a floating line and 4lb leader.
Twenty minutes after a gentle take including a number of runs that took plenty of backing of the reel the rainbow was netted wieghed and returned alive.

This is the 3rd known double to be cught this week!

Fishing well at the moment with plenty of fish to be had for those prepared to seek them out. Slow fishing for those standing in one spot and not prepared to ring the changes.

Mark Leah of Hazel Grove had a 12 1/2lb rainbow from the roadside bank

Mark had his fish on a 'Orange Fritz Goldhead Wooly ******’ fished with a slow figure of 8 retrieve on a floating line.

Stoke angler Andy Heath moved around the water and had a bag of 14 fish including many over 4lb and one estimated at 12lb, plus a wild Errwood brownie of 1lb.

minimum stock fish size is 1 3/4lb and the fish are in excellent condition and strong fighters.

Just a quick note for all anglers in the Leek area.

The Wine Shop in Leek is now selling day tickets for Errwood Reservoir.

Thumbs up Errwood biggie.

Went to Errwood today, a guy called Malc Keats had a fish way over the 10lb mark, he returned the fish.
The fish was as silver as a freshly run salmon.
Does anyone know how many of these big fish have been caught ?

Since opening day I'd estimate about 8 but I could be wrong, more may of been caught that we aren’t aware of. However 8 doubles in 2 weeks isn’t too bad a tally

However don’t be confused into thinking that Errwood is a big fish water, it isn’t. The average stock fish is between 1 3/4 and 2 1/4lb with a large supporting cast of rainbows to 7lb+. Having said that there are plenty of PB's swimming around in its 90 acres just don’t get the water confused with a "big fish" venue like Pennine.

If its reservoir bank fishing at £15 a day in picturesque surroundings that you fancy then its probably just what you're looking for.

The bright weather and windless conditions have put the fish deeper during the main part of the day. Intermediate lines and / or weighted flies providing more sport. Some insect life and modest haches have brought fish to the surface the last few evenings and some fish, especially the wild browns, have started showing to dries.

Black and green lures and smaller wets, still on slow retrieves, now taking the majority of the fish.

Default report 15/04/2010

The fish seem to have recovered from the colder weather and returned to the feed with the change in wind direction pushing the fish to the southern parts of the reservoir. Black and green lures and smaller wets still the flies to be on. Orange lures are not as effective as in previous weeks with some fish now showing to buzzers.

Toads and frogs everywhere so expect black taddies to bring fish in the next few weeks.

The good fishing continued over the weekend depite the bright conditions with plenty of rainbows in the 2lb category being caught. These were backed up by a high percentage of fish in the 5 - 7lb category and another two doubles: an 11 1/2 pounder to day ticket angler Mark Dakin and a 13 1/2 lb monster to club member Pete Gilman. (pictured below - possibly one of the worst "fish of a lifetime" taken!)

Can I ask all day ticket anglers to post returns, we need this information for our stocking policy. Repeat failure to post returns may result in refusal of future day tickets.
