How was the fishing? Hope you got amongst the fish.

It's my first trip out this weekend and it's a toss up between Barrows, Chew or Llandegfedd

All the best - Steve

Don't know how DD got on but I was out all day on all three tanks and it was tough. I wound up with two on DB's, after dropping two, but only after moving to number 3 in the afternoon to escape the gusty wind. Stepping down to 3X might also have helped though. The tanks are full but clear.

One old chap who fishes Chew had bagged up on his first visit, at Ivy Bank, using a booby and Di7 but, more encouragingly, a chap by the water-treatment outlet, popular spot, others were catching, took six on small black buzzers, [ the only, sporadic, hatch of the day.]

Young Ashley had four when I spoke with him, with two on nymphs and two on the mouse. Another regular was packing up with four for the day, but again, all from no. 3.
Fish were showing late on by the trees but, try as I might, I coudn't get decent turnover at the range required with a dry. Good fun trying though.

I didnt get on well at all. I blanked :-(. There were quite a few people catching in certain places but was certainly was not easy. The fish seemed to be down deep and I didnt have a fast sinker. Most of the fish I saw caught were very small except one 3lb'r

I only seem to do well on the Barrows when the fish are in the higher layers. Plus I seem to have forgotton how to cast, althought the wind was quite tricky.

Still it beat a day in the office. Looking forward to it warming up a bit.

Fished tank 2 on Sunday.

I headed straight over to the far corner, and fished on the corner of the bay mainly because the wind was blowing into this corner.

I fished for about 2½ hours without a touch and didn’t see a rise or any signs of life at all. I was using a floater and a combination of buzzers and wets. There was a really nice ripple on which looked ideal for pulling wets, but I couldn’t tempt anything up.

At about 11o'clock I switched to a fast glass and later to a Di3 with a leven viva on the point and a cruncher on the dropper (my aim to use traditional wets more this year lasted less than 3 hours). I had my first pull after about 10 mins and had my limit by 12:30 all to the viva (the biggest went 2lb 4oz). I had a lot of follows and nips that didn’t hook up, and dropped a couple after they had been on for a few seconds so there were lots of fish there.

I walked back up the natural bank and and the 3 guys fishing up by the dam all had fish, mainly to Diawls and black buzzers. The guys fishing the dam wall had nothing.

All the fish I caught were full of small (size 16 / 18) olive / green buzzers with the odd shrimp so no idea why the viva caught and the buzzers didn’t, although I didn’t go that small to be honest. My only theory is that the buzzers were fishing too high up in the water.

So back home in time to see United beat the bin dippers. Happy days .
