Default Pitsford - opening day

I fished Pitsford today, along with many others.

I thought that the Stone Barn area would have been difficult given the wind direction so I walked down to Gorse Bank. The usual places around Stiltons/Bog Bay were quite full as I walked past, but one or two rods were seen bending.

I started with a Slow Intermediate (Blue one from PP) with two #10 Mini Lures (black marabou tail/wing and bright green straggle fritz and a similar one bit with white marabou).

Fish were caught regularly, if not frequently, until about 12-30ish by which time I had five fish. It then went very quiet for me and those around me. Finally I resorted to a couple of BLOBS () (Lime Green and Light Orange) for the last hour and caught a couple more one on each colour.

Best fish went just under 4lb I would guess, and another just a little less. The remainder were all around the 2-2.5lb mark.

It was great to be out again - and the weather could have been worse,

Just one little niggle - an 8 fish ticket with C&R is good value at £20, but the Sporting ticket (1 fish with C&R) seems a little expensive at £18.

But looking on the bright side, 12 months ago you'd have to kill all 8 then go home. There is always the 8 fish ticket available for £20 which is as you say good value.

Hell, i appear to be defending AW !!!

My mistake, you can save another quid and kill 8 and go home. Now that IS good value, 16lbs of trout for £19

Default Ticket options

Neither the "8 + C&R" or the "1 + C&R" at £20 or £18 respectively are expensive .

I just feel that the price differential is too small to encourage you to take the "1+C&R" option.

What is the % difference between equivalent season permits? not 10% I would guess.

I've never understood the C+R price either, why would you pay £18 for it when an 8 fish is £20.

And they are big waters, so tell me how do they know if someone isn't releasing fish when they have caught the limit.

Hi James - BOTH tickets come with C&R
8 fish then C&R for £20 or
1 fish the C&R for £18

sorry you are right, it's Rutland and Grafham where it is £20 for 8 fish and £22 for 8 fish + C&R.

I fished opening day, and was pleased to see the fish well spread out, which meant I could get away from the busy sections of bank. With the wind from the north I mainly fished that bank, Brixworth bay to the Cliffs, and had about ten fish on the floater, most taking the cruncher and hares ear on the droppers. With the wind forecast south westerly, and fairly brisk on Wednesday you want to be on the south shore, maybe the Pines/Sermans.I'm lucky to have a gate key, so I can drive round the reservoir, but if you are parking and walking you want to get it right first time! The lodge will put you right, but you don't have to fish the 'hotspots' to have a good day, or fish sinkers and lures.
Good luck!
