Sport has been much better today for the few that braved a cold north wind and a few blustery showers. Surprisingly plenty of fish just a couple of feet down with buzzers,diawl bachs and small olive lures being best.

The brown algae is clearing fast and water clarity is much improved leading to much better sport. With a decent forecast we should be in for a good weekend.

Best fish, a rainbow of 7Ib 8oz to Grahame Munford-Gibbs from Sleaford. His bag also included a 4Ib 8oz fish, he caught 9 altogether fishing washing line with an intermediate line and coral booby on the point with db's on the droppers.

Dare I say it? I think we might be turning a corner!? A nice weekend to start the week then a minus seven degree frost sunday night and a 60% frozen pond to greet me on Monday morning. The ice cleared eventually but fishing was very tough, no surprise there really. As the week has gone on the weather has got milder and the fishing got better. The brown algal bloom is now subsiding and water clarity improves day on day and much nearer normal now. Yesterday all anglers were fishing floaters and buzzers, diawl bachs and small olive lures/damsel patterns with great success, the best catch being 16 fish to Mr.Wright from Nottingham. A few more cracking fish out this week including 16 fish over 5Ib's and 2 doubles. The best was a rainbow of 16Ib 7oz to Brian Simmons from Mansfield.



He fished buzzers beneath an indicator taking a 5 fish bag including 2 others of 5Ib 1oz and 3Ib 10oz.

the milder weather has arrived. Plenty of fish on or near the surface with diawl bachs and buzzers working really well drifted around along the back.

Some good days ahead I'm sure, forecast highs of 15 degrees C today and mild nights too.

A real change this week, in the weather, the number of anglers and indeed fish caught. Only one night of near frost with most of the rest upwards of 6 degrees and daytime temperatures of 10 degrees plus. This has meant some very pleasant fishing conditions with many fish only a couple of feet down and even one or two taken on dry CDC patterns. Diawl bach patterns, buzzers, damsels and orange fritz goldheads have all been very good. Towards the end of the week as strong mainly southerly winds prevailed, the fish have followed the wind and are really concentrated along the north bank with the north west and north east bends being the most productive.

Fish are extremely close in, so even if you find it difficult to cast into the wind, it's worth a shot. A brilliant week for big fish with 32 fish 4Ib+ including a fair number over 6Ib's - attached photo of Mervin White from Bilsthorpe with his personal best rainbow of 12Ib 8oz which he took on one of Pete Cowan's top secret Diawl Bach patterns!

Pleased to hear from Roger Gill that 'The best nymph man in the North' Norman Stevens is on the mend following recent treatment for an illness. He'll be gracing the banks of Toft and Rutland before too long, showing the locals how to do it!

Let's hope these temperatures continue and the resident fish start to move and join in with the stockies.
