Default Weekly results week ending - 1st April

124 rods caught 665 fish

rod av. 5.4

Good sport in the main although the wind and cold on one or two days made fishing a little tricky. Boat sport very good as plenty of fish appear to be on the feed well out. Dinnington angler Trevor Ward managed his personal best day last week at Toft boating 57 fish to 4Ib 8oz, mainly on or near the surface with blobs and diawl bachs fished on the drift.

Fish still very close to the surface, whatever the conditions, so any top of the water methods good with washing line and small booby, nymph & buzzer combo best. Dry CDC patterns, shuttlecock and Shipman's all good too. No particular best areas as the winds have been quite variable, give one spot a try and move on within half an hour if nothing doing.

Quite a few fish out to 6Ib 4oz this week including the one on the attached photo of Mandy Ashton from Sheffield.

Don't forget to renew your rod licence if you haven't already, new year began on 1st April.

Fishing for Heroes sponsored comp on May 15th, still plenty of room left, get your name down and start raising funds asap please.

PALM SPRINGS SALMON fishing trip this week. A few Toft anglers, including me, are visiting the fishery this Thursday the 7th and there's free transport from Toft if you fancy it? There are 3 places left and the cost is £100 per angler, a discount of £20 on the usual day ticket cost. It's near Rutland Water and if it's easier for you to get there then we can meet you at the fishery. Please let me know by tomorrow night if you fancy it. A great opportunity to visit this interesting fishery with some great company!! Visit the website HERE.

**WEBSITE UPDATE** - The Toft website is now mended, all files have been deleted and replaced, so it's safe. BUT - because the site has been reported to Google as a suspect site, Google are still treating it as such. I have informed them but it can take weeks for them to reset their search results back to normal. SO, to reach the site, DON'T type Toft Newton into Google, instead type Toft Newton Trout Fishery ~ Fly and trout fishing in Lincolnshire, Learn to cast a fly, Bank & Boat fishing, fly fishing tackle shop, disabled anglers fishing, wheelyboat for disabled anglers use, fly casting tuition and beginners fly casting courses into your browser address bar and it'll work fine.

Forthcoming 'Fishing for Heroes' event planned for May 15th, raise sponsorship for the charity and cover your fishing costs and effectively have a free days fishing to reward you for your fundraising efforts! Last years event was a great success raising upwards of £1500 and let's try and make 2011 even better. Contact me for a sponsorship & rule sheet and to log your entry.

Default Weekly results week ending - 15th April

111 rods caught 604 fish

rod av. 5.4

A good week again with fish very active during overcast conditions. Fish everywhere when the skies are clouded with small Shipman's, hoppers and beetle/spider patterns all very good. During brighter spells the fish seem to push down to around 3 or 4 feet deep with washing line working well either on floater or intermediate with a small booby on the point and a buzzer or diawl bach in between.

On really clear days try a cat's whisker or olive damsel pattern on intermediate but by far the best method is deep fished imitative stuff. No particular best areas with variable winds changing things around quite alot. Looks like the coming week will see the high pressure staying with us and therefore the dry, mild and brightish spell continuing.

Quite a few decent fish out once again with the best being caught and released at just over 10Ib to Mick Jellis from West Sussex taken on a dry hopper. Attached a picture of Ralph Baines from Butterwick near Scunthorpe with a well mended rainbow of 8Ib 2oz taken on a dry.

Uploaded a bit of video from last week at Palm Springs Salmon fishery, might be worth a look if you have a minute? See it
Still needing more names down for the sponsored charity fundraiser on Sunday 15th May for Fishing for Heroes, take a look at the website HERE and contact me to book a place.

Troutmasters qualifier fish off here last Saturday and representing Toft in the finals will be Neil Deakin and Connor Clarke for the juniors.

+1

Over in Grimsby at the weekend (inlaws, family do etc) but managed to squeeze in a morning session at Toft. Good to meet Roy who was on duty in the office. Rather windy so stayed on bank but fish close in and feeding close to the surface. Only a handful of people there so space to work down one side of the bowl fishing the crosswind.

Default Weekly results week ending - 3rd June

144 rods caught 1095 fish rod av. 7.6

The fish just keep on coming!! Excellent top of the water sport yet again even on the bright and blustery days. Small dries are best with CDC patterns about the most successful. Try a small hare's ear, pheasant tail or damsel if the fish are a little deeper. The wind has been north easterly over the last few days with plenty of fish within easy reach from the north west corner right around to the black pipe.

Boat anglers doing well fishing bushy sedge patterns loch style. Grenadier, Soldier Palmer and Invicta patterns all very good. Fishing on the outside edge of the weedbeds at anchor worth a try too.

Best fish 11Ib 4oz to Lee Hanson from Sheffield taken on a gold head lure. Sam Timbrell from Ruskington fished the washing line twitching a small tequila booby and took a fish of 9Ib 2oz.

Recorded a bit of video on Friday night with Andy Hutson fishing his own CDC pattern in the north west corner. Plenty of big sedges around and an excellent rise, he caught 15 fish in an hour and a half session. See the informative video
.

Excellent evening sport and reduced rate evening ticket available from 5.30pm - £7 C&R, £11 2 fish then C&R.

Free boat Monday starts 6th June - remember FBM !!

**FOR SALE** on behalf of customer - Minn Kota Endura electric outboard 50Ib thrust and 110 amp/hour leisure battery both as new - around £500 rrp, will accept £240. At Toft if you want to take a look?

Weekly results week ending - 2nd September

117 rods caught 569 fish rod av. 4.9

Another good week on the whole, a little slow at times during the middle of the brighter days but when overcast sport very good. Black buzzers very good with a hint of orange, muddlers, sedges, hoppers, damsels, Shipman's and floating fry. Fish well spread out and some days very close in. Quite an unsettled forecast for the next few days should spell decent fishing weather.

Best fish a 14Ib rainbow to John Lilley from Scothern near Lincoln taken on a Shipman's from a boat

LAST CALL for the Greys bank competition at Toft on Sunday September 11th. Anglers can enter on an individual basis or as part of 3 man teams with a maximum of 15 anglers participating. See more on the website at Team England Fly Fishing. Please support this event if you're able as I'm sure it'll grow in years to come and offers a great opportunity at a local venue.

Also 'Fishing for heroes' sponsored event which will be fished the same day as the Toft Newton Cup on Sunday 2nd October. This event was well supported last season and it would be nice to have a repeat performance. Entry fee is £30 which covers 6 fish ticket and prize money entry. Anglers wishing to fish and raise sponsorship need to raise a minimum of £65 to cover their own match entry and £35 donation to the charity. Please come if you can, it's always a fun & friendly day, contact me for a sponsor form.

Weekly results week ending - 3rd February

100 rods caught 813 fish rod av. 8.1

An absolutely superb opening week as the outstanding rod average testifies. Pretty chilly but then we are in the coldest month, so no real surprises there! Relatively still days have kept things pleasant and sport well spread, all manner of methods have worked well too. The majority of anglers opting for floating lines, long leaders with a weighted lure on the point and a black buzzer or diawl bach on the dropper. White humungus, cat's whisker, damsel or concrete bowl all good choices, orange booby blob also a trusted back up.

Lots of big fish including a personal best for Ian Foulstone from Skegness at 12Ib 8oz taken on a gold head damsel. I had 5 minutes fishing with Martin Rowson's rod on Wednesday whilst he warmed his hands and my 'long' session was rewarded 3rd cast with a 7Ib ish fish on a black buzzer, see the pic. Craig Atkin also pictured with a lovely conditioned rainbow a touch under 5Ib. Bitterly cold today, Saturday, and I've just been for a walk around and took a picture of the broken ice being quickly cleared by the increasing southerly wind. The first real ice of the winter so far but with the last couple of nights down to minus 8, it's to be expected.

Snow forecast for later but then hopefully not too bad for the rest of the week.

11.02.12

Afternoon,

Just a quick note to say the reservoir is completely frozen following the frost which reached -16°C on Friday night. It's remained clear and fished really well all week for the hardy few that ventured out, with an 8+ rod average.

I can't imagine much of a thaw over the next day or two, it's stayed below -2 all day here today despite the sunshine! So please check on the morning before you travel or check the website which will be updated as soon as there is a change.

Not a great situation for any of us, I want you here as much as you want to be here!!

Jason
