Thumbs up Alderneuk Report

Hi All
Still hanging onto this cold nonsense, although there has been some reprieve with some half decent daytime temps of late, baltic nights still and ice breaking most mornings. Some good fishing at the weekend and a new Alderneuk record bow to boot, well done Simon Littlejohn, who had this lovely 9lb bow in a 7 fish catch, fav. home tied rabbit scores again, how many have succumbed to that lures charms now?

Another good day for Paul who nailed 7 also to 5lb, well done Paul, the Cumbrian trio of Jimmy, Barry and Andy had a good day with 18 between them, pic of the bunch a stunning 6lb Tiger for Andy, var. lures doing the business for the lads, a lovely 7lb+ bow for Danny on a yellow dancer, 5 nice fish to Jack on home tied bugs under the bung, Stevie and Ross had 5 between them to 5lb with a lovely tiger in amongst them, a nice fish each for Calum and Andy, and a big Alderneuk welcome to 1st timers Jim and Steve who manged 3 between them, A great day today with 5 anglers sharing 35 trout, a stunning brace of 6lb and 7lb 8oz in a 5 fish catch on home tied buzzers under the bung for Scott, away the hootsman!!

Scotts spanking 7lb 8oz.

Country Joes managed, between blethering, took sneak out 3 nice fish to 5lb 8oz, by varying the tactics, well done Lawrie, catch of the day though went to the Stranraer duo of Stupike and the laird, who stuck with buzzers nymphs and bloodworm to nail no less than 27 trout between them, awesome, to many 5lb plussers to mention, a brace of 6lb plus fish and 3 lovely tigers in there to, a masterclass in this style of angling, top notch guys, and the laird on his 1st visit to!! Well done all, classic nymphing, subtle tweaks producing stonking big resident bows! Got it spot on today lads and reaped the rewards, Stu sneaked a few out stalking late on to in the shallows, class!
Remeber all, fishery closed for club comps, 7th and 13th March, any queries contact 07901 602020, best fishes all, Wilma and Wullie.

Default alderneuk today

went to Alderneuk today with Stupike to try it out. Arrived just after eight, nice light covering of snow round the water. Wullie had already been out in the boat to break the ice "good man", introductions were held over the first of many cups of tea, weather conditions looked promising, with grey skies and the loch flat calm, temperature about 1C, i wont put the final scores up but i will say it was one of the best days fishing and craic i've had in a long time. The quality and average weight of the fish was superb as was the company, met fellow forum members, Laurie aka country joe and the fish, and Scotty who i must apologise to for forgetting his forum handle, also many, many thanks to Wullie and Wilma the collie dog and the sheep for making my first visit so memorable. Hopefully Wullie will let us know the tallies for today when he does his update. Once again many thanks to everyone concerned for a wonderfull day out, Tam and Stuart.

Oop's sorry Scott, quite a few other spelling mistakes in that post to, too much time spent fishing and not enough studying at school!! The "hootsmun" it is from this day forth! In my defence, i was having serious senior moments last night when compiling that report and successfully deleted it not once but twice when putting the pics in, Grrrrrr!! Don't you hate that? where is the "help I did'nt mean to do that" key on the computer? It was a great day and is definetly convinced me that winter is "the" time to fish for Rainbows, i've seen more absolutley spanking big residents in the last 6 weeks, than i've seen all summer! They seem to succesfully avoid capture in the better weather, and only slip up on the odd days, and i'm sure you'll agree, especially after the two great scraps you had, that they are at there fighting best in cold water, only my thoughts, what do you folks think? You guys n' gals that hang up your rods through the traditional trout close season don't know what your missing, hot weather clothing is top ace, and a lot of fisherys, like us, have hot drinks and hot food, with the log burner roaring in the lodge, except when I let it go out, oop's sorry country joe!!, the cold really is'nt a big deal.

Well done the Laird and Stupike, it was defiantly a learning curve, watching these two, pull fish after fish ,on Buzzers and Bloodworm, stupike on the indicator, and the laird on a 15 ft leader, he refuses to float fish, watching their line for the slightest tweak, although, i catch my share, i realise i do yap to much, and i look around trying to spot geese etc, when i should be watching that line,
A superb day, and after meeting the Laird for the first time, i hope it won't be the last, that's what Angling is all about for me,meeting good guys and having a craic.
I certainly learned a lot, about fishing the buzzer,
and well done Scott on that big bow,
and finally its Laurie Wull, not lawrie

Sorry country joe, Laurie it is, yes class acts those Stranraer boys, I love watching folk who are at the top of there particular game, you can't fail to learn from anglers of this quality, and certainly in my experiance at the fishery, folk like that, genuine anglers, are only to keen to pass on tips and advice, we all have something to learn and everyday is a school day. I've learned so much from watching these guys and can't wait to try and put some of that knowledge into practice, the reality is though, that angling, like other sports, has people of outstanding natural ability, and most of the rest of us will have to aspire! still it's the trying that's the best bit!

Default Simon The Bunny Puller

Hi Wullie and Wilma thanks again for another good days fishin last Sunday. The rabbit has been good to me over the last few visits and its hard to take it off as long as its working. I think I will set myself a challange next time and leave them at home and fish small stuff!........Na!! I would end up drivin back home to get them. Anyway that 9 pounder was a crackin fish not a mark on it. I be back soon.
Simon

The more i fish this place the better it gets!Fished alderneuk on wednesday and again yesterday. The fishing was a bit harder yesterday should of had 5 fish in the first hour, but dropped every one!I managed to keep the next 4 on and land them.First was a cracking wee rainbow about 2 1/2-3lb he fell for a black an pink buzzer.Fished the buzzers for the next hour with no joy, changed to olive damsel and ptn's with instant results!hooked into a tiger (wullie reckoned was an easy 5lb)which took off like a stabbed rat and nearly pulled the rod out my hand!! I thought it couldn't get any better until one of the best looking brownies followed my ptn right into the shallows, opened its mouth and took the fly and shot off!10 minutes later i was into my second brownie of the day both fish were round about 4lb!Never touched another fish after that not that i was bothered, went home a happy chappy
