Default were to fish in the west of scotland

after being corrected on a recent post about my amateur position on declaring certain water / waters the best in the west , i am now looking for some real info from you guys who fish many different waters in the west of Scotland regularly ,,,as i would like to try some new waters and broaden my experience of fishing different locations .

any info given will be appreciated ,,,,cheers.

Sorry new to the forum, so don't know which other post.

What type of fish are you after? The West Coast is a large area. Do you have any peramiters?

actually anywhere in and around central belt of Scotland going out as far as traveling around an hour or two on the train as transport has been an issue for me thus Ive not been able to get around to many places other than that accessible by train,, and after finding harelaw and hearing the chat i thought i was in the best place ,which I'm still pretty sure i am ,as theirs not many guys like Alec ,,and well those trout say it all for themselves, just a matter of finding my feet on that water etc!!! but i want to try different waters also to expand my fishing area.!!

For rainbows then I dont think that you can get a better place than Harelaw. Saying that I caught a cracker of a brown there too that had a kyped jaw.

For wild brownies you have the Kelvin/Clyde on your doorstep and there are loads of wee hill lochs within an hour of you by public transport.

Must give Alderneuk a mention, dumfries read all posts, never been a bad word said, all positive,
Probally the best small fishery in Scotland.

Hey Derek - as you know I used to get about no problems on public transport - from where you live you can easily get to the old Kirkpatrick hills and fish some of the lochs up there - it is walk in but not too bad - maybe 45mins to an hour for the first loch. You can also get the bus out to Croftamie and then fish the Endrick.

There are spots on the Clyde you can get to by bus as well ..

I suppose if you hunted around there are buses that would take you close to some of the lochs in the Trossachs as well.
