Default Coyle Water Fishery Update

With both ponds totally clear of ice, it was easy picking for the 6 that came to fish today.

Walter & son on a 3 fish ticket, were gone in 3 hours, catching a total of 7 1/2lb on powerbait.

T Kirkwood, being the only one of the fly pond (until I arrived) on a 2 fish ticket caught a total of 22 mainly on black fritz with a very slow retreive.

His brother, D Kirkwood using powerbait on the bait pond, did well with 3 fish weighing in at 7lb.

I decided to get in on the action and managed to catch & release 15, losing a few as well. I have no idea what to call the fly I was using, Suppose I should really give it a name but it was lethal. At one stage I hooked 5 in 5 casts.

Young Ross McIlraith managed 4 on a black fritz and probably lost double that

Forecast for tomorrow isn't that bad, it's started snowing now but temprature is supposed to be slightly warmer than today.

Plenty of fish rising and after todays results the weekend is looking quite good.

New website launched today. A couple of pages still to do but the bulk of it is up and running.

The vandals that torched the cabin also wrecked the motor for the boat. Motor is up and running again, so this is mainly a warning to Jack Frost. Bring it, cause what little ice we have, you don't scare us now and we will have it cleared 1st thing every morning.

Still fishing well, damsels and buzzers are the flavour of the week. Fish aren't coming up as much as when the ice 1st cleared but I think the novelty of no ice has worn off for them.

Landline still needs hooked up but unless otherwise stated, we will be open every day.

Busy busy busy. Loads of people fishing both ponds today, fly pond was slow in the morning with the fish staying well down and as expected started coming to surface by lunchtime, rising all over the place, but to take full advantage the correct choice of fly was essential (which a lot of people struggled with). If I could have wet my line I think I would have definately used a wee dry but, oh my god, I did nothing but cook all day, must have gone through about 4 dozen rolls. Banter with everyone there was brilliant, weather was excellent and great fun had by all.

Both ponds are being well stocked tomorrow about 9am, so if you fancy a trip through it would be great to put a face to some of the names on here

Week ending 7/3/2010

The week started off quite slowly but steadily improved with the busiest weekend we've had in a while.

The bait pond is proving very challenging but still producing some good results. Powerbait is still the most effective method but worms and maggots are now starting to produce better results. Best catch of the week goes to brothers Dylan and Ryan Brown of Ochiltree, producing the best results in a relatively short visit on Sunday. A close 2nd goes to Mr. Miller, taking away 4 with an estimated weight of 7lbs.

The fly pond has been as challenging but has produced some amazing results for a select few. Davy Kay early on in the week managed to catch 8 on damsels and Hugh Munro released 6 the following day, mainly on his old faithful black & green fritz. Saturday was very busy, with most pegs taken for the better part of the day. The morning started off slow but by midday fish were rising well and fritz was the word of the day. Sunday turned out to be as busy as Saturday but produced far better results, catch of the day shared by Tam Jarvie and Mr. Olssen on 15 each. Closely followed by Wee Joe and Dougie Inglis on 14 each (I believe Wee Joe also release a Bluey). Buzzers, Blobs, Fritz and Grizzle Cat amongst the flies being used by the 4. With the reported catches, there was a total of 88 fish caught. Yellow Dancers and some dries have to get a mention too as they were responsible for a lot of those caught on Sunday.

Both ponds have had a substantial stocking and with the increase in temperature it is starting to produce great results and is improving daily.

Open 7 days a week, 8am till dark o clock.

Oh was that you? I was on your right and having a right old giggle

I blame Willy (the guy working today) for the name on the report, he's a bit old and forgets to ask for 1st names, lol

It was good sport today. I went in for something to eat after getting 7. Should have stayed out cause I blanked in the afternoon

Glad you had a good day and hope to see you back soon

Tam

Just a quick update.

New benches going in around both ponds. We have done most of the benches round the bait pond, something like 15 benches, so plenty of places to have a seat.

Starting to put the benches round the fly pond tomorrow at the request of the older guys

I've been reminding John constantly but since the fire he is trying to do a million things at once and he just doesn't have enough hours in the day.

I'll see what sort of mood he is in tomorrow before deciding whether to ask him

Hopefully get back to you some time tomorrow
