8. SWANSWATER (Stirling) The frosty start to the week made things a little slower but after a really cold night Tuesday and thin ice on the water on Wednesday morning, Thursday and Friday saw the best of the fishing. Most of the week the fish were lying near the bottom of the ponds and taking lures and occasional nymphs fished very slowly. Towards the weekend, when the air temperature rose a little, the fish in the small ponds were slightly nearer the surface becoming more active and inclined to chase lures. Best patterns this week included Dancer, Cat’s Whisker, Humungus, Damsel, Fritz, Montana and Diawl Bach. Favourite colours were Black and green, yellow, orange and white.
Amongst this week’s best catches were Nigel Muckle, Mid Calder, 4 for 14lb 10oz including 5lb 10oz Rainbow and a Blue, James White, Galston, 2 for 7lh including 5lb Blue, David Gregor, South Queensferry, 5 for 14lb 12oz including a Blue and John Patrick, Kilsyth, 5 for 14lb 8oz including 3 Blues. Brian Lockie, Stirling, 5 for 14lb 8oz including 2 Blues, Malcolm Miller, Clackmannan, 5 for 14lb, Frank Barr, Falkirk, 4 for 12lb 8oz including a Blue and Joe Black, Kilsyth, 4 for 12lb including a Blue. Les Shepherd, Arbroath, 4 for 12lb including a Blue, James Cuthbert, Inverkeithing, 3 for 10lb including a Blue, Stewart Marshall, Cambusbarron, 3 for 9lb 8oz and Gary Stewart, Glasgow, 3 for 9lb 4oz including 2 Blues. Henry Fulton, Greenock, 3 for 9lb
