Default Ruland another casualty?

Just received a phone call from a friend who is usually in-the-know when it comes to water company changes in policy pertaining to we fly fishers. Anyway, he says Rutland will not be stocked as normal this coming season. Instead Anglian water are going to wait until the rod average drops to 1, yes ONE , before they consider stocking. His information is usually 100% correct.
Has anyone any knowledge of what is happening at Rutland this year. As I hope the above is absolute ball+++s.

Really hope this doen't happen

I been to Rutland a few times and believe it is one of the best Large Stillwaters mainly because of it's stocking policy.

Not heard of that, but Rutland Water Fly Fishers had a evening in the middle of the month that John Seaton (Senior Warden) and Jake Williams (sic?) who I think is recreational manager or something were presenting the outlook for next season. I didn't get to it, but I'll ask around and see if I can find someone who was there, and if the stocking policy came up.

Last year the stocking started early mid March for 1st April opening day, and 100,000+ fish went in over the year...Anyway, if they take my rod/day/fish average, then they'll be stocking pretty quickly!

Not having fished it but here is a thought. I don't know how the catch returns system works but if instead of all the anglers putting in limit catch returns when they get them they put just one fish or blanked in the return slip, wouldn't this bring the rod average down? Cheating of course but isn't that what this idea will perpetrate?

Default Not sure !

Not heard this......and Anglian Water have (in the past)had contracts in place with fish farms to supply set amounts of fish each month.

I don't think they could just order fish for immediate delivery when the rod average drops below 1.....there may not be stock available...and they could loose a lot of revenue.(especially as the fishery made money last year)

Last years rod average was over 3 fish...so i think there is the distinct possability that stocking will be reduced in 2010..(as it has been over a number of years)as a means of cutting costs.

110,000 fish were once stocked in Rutland (2001 ish) that has now been reduced year on year to 90,000 last year..

Add the difference stocking policy difference, and its cumalative effect; and that the season is longer; and i think there are very few fish that actually overwinter

Jake Williams has stirred things up at A.W...but he's just a scape goat for the big boss Clive Harwood (in my opinion) as you don't make all these changes so quickly without the consent at the highest level.

Rumours are rife here......and another couple i've heard from good sources are:-

1 - Pitsford may go to an "any method" fishery !

2 - Pedelo's (in the shape of swans) are proposed to be launched from Barnsdale; if planning permission can be gained for a launch site/lodge.

Finally....the new Dam at the top of the South Arm (to allow more wetland for birds !) has been built.......the plans show the Dam at the bottom of the arm......however it has been built further up.....meaning that we as anglers loose some of the best nymph water on the lake...

And there not going to move 100,000 tonnes of stone thats already in place are they ??

Rutland Water is no longer known as a Fly-Fishery.....it's now called "Rutland Water Leisure Facility" in an attempt to appeal to the wider public.

With recent goings on at Severn Trent (draycote, thornton) you'd start to think that there's a water company conspiracy

I heard from a friend who was at the meeting, that Anglian Water are going to invest £6 million in Anglian Water Leisure over the next 5 years. Anglian Water Leisure has been making a profit, 50% of which came from fishing.
