Default Lechlade update

Looking good... can't wait to have a crack at them on Saturday!

Cheers
Alex

Dear All,

Well, things are slowly improving but for how long is anyone's guess. Bushyleaze opened on Saturday for the first time since Christmas but, with temperatures only just dropping to freezing again last night, a third of the lake had gone again this morning. Lechlade has been clear for about a week and is fishing spectacularly with most fish being over ten pounds. Despite the one month stoppage, Bushy came straight back on form, with everyone bagging up. We didn't stock on the first day and the fish looked in wonderful condition.

I will keep the website as up to date as is humanly possible, the weather forecast seems to be getting more and more unreliable.

Report for January (So far...I can see four fish being played even as I write)

Lechlade. 209 Anglers had 577 fish of which 324 were over double figures. Mr Hewitt had two spectacular fish, one just under 22lbs and one at 19lbs 6oz. Lots of people had four doubles, Tony Moore had four fish for 53lbs, the largest being just under 15lbs. Best flies were damsel nymphs, montanas and, surprisingly, small black buzzers. In the last week some "serious" browns have come out...and been returned. Largest 22lbs but several between 11 and 14lbs.

Bushyleaze.

61 fishermen had 222 fish ( I think everyone bagged up!). Lots of good sized fish out. Mr Joseph had the largest at 7lbs 6oz. Messrs Stroud, Robertson and Taylor all had fish over five pounds. Again, Damsel nymphs and buzzers were the order of the day.

Prospects for March.

That sounds better! The days will be getting longer and hopefully it will be warmer, although a hot summer would be the final straw. On Bushyleaze there will be plenty of surface activity on warm days and dry sedges and olives will work. PTN's, Damsels and buzzers will be the norm. Look out for emerging patterns and use them. With the water temperatures still likely to be well down, you can use fry patterns and largish lures on Lechlade although all the usual patterns, damsels, buzzers, dawl bachs etc will work. The fish are hungry and this is one of the best months of the year.

Thumbs up

Three of us booked in for Sunday, would like to know how you both get on, never fished it before!

Sacrificed the final fling at Walthamstow for better prospects here

Good luck to you both

There are wheelbarrows to use to take your fish in.. sometimes you need them. my best 4 fish bag from there was just under 60lb!

Default LTF at its best

Brave the cold, as NOW is the time to fish LTF. It should fish it's socks off!!!!

If you have never fished it before, a good tip is to hire a boat, fish the boay near the garden. If they are running water through at night (to keep it ice free) that will draw a lot of fish up that end.

two more tips, first please take the right strength leader, these fish are big, and in these condition they fight like demons. Second, take a net that you can fit the fish into, most of the fish will be 6lb plus, with upto 10% being over 10lbs.

enjoy!!!!

Also heard Bushy is fish well to.

Crikey.

What weight rod/line and leader do you need to tackle a water like that?

most people fish a 6 or 7wt, but I have seen anglers use 3-4wt, it just takes a little longer to land them.

I usually fish a 7 weight at Lechlade, and always use decent line. Jason used to bollok me regularly for only having 6lb! At this time of year the fish can fight really well so leave the light stuff at home!
