FISHING REPORT 25/01/09

West House managed to remain open during the last few weeks of Artic conditions. The aerators enabled fishing on two out of the 4 lakes and those brave enough to tackle the conditions caught fish. The fish as would be expected were very deep and prevailing tactics were small Lurses fished slowly and deep. If the day did brighten up the catches were made on small black buzzers fish either slowly or static. The big freeze seems to have passed and its expected that all 4 lakes will be open by this weekend.

Two nice double figure fish caught this week. 17 year old Nathan Hopper of Stanley caught a nice rainbow of 10lb on a Zonker. West House regular Peter Crowe of hartlepool went one better landing an 18lb fish in Artic conditions using a Beetle Lure fished on the bottom. Peter Hardy of Chester le Street caught 9 fish including a fin perfect Brown Trout of 5lb all his fish falling to the ever faithful Cats Whisker. Nigel Wheetam of Yarm caught 6 fish his best 7lb on a variety of lures.


The best flies this week were Black or Olive Zonkers, Olive, Nomads, Cormorants Cats Whiskers, Blobs, and Mini lures.
