Default Lechlade Report

I thought I would beat Alex (BrownieBasher) to the punch and post the Lechalade monthly report I received the other day

Dear All,

A very happy New Year and I hope you all had a good Christmas.

Very tempting to have a huge whinge but I suspect you are all suffering in the cold weather. This is our busiest time of the year and the Christmas break accounts for 10% of our yearly turnover. We have hardly seen a fisherman for the last three weeks and we are struggling. I did sell a pair of Wellington Boots today!

Bushyleaze is still completely frozen over, Lechlade is clear from the house to the ferry. We can fit about 12 anglers on that bit of water, using the boats and my lawn. For those venturing out, the fishing is great and you will have no problems bagging up. Most fish are over 10 lbs. Roads to the Fishery are clear, although I am totally baffled how the A40, Witney By Pass, is still only one lane. I nearly had a serious "moment" there the other night.

The website has been a Godsend, we have been updating it twice a day for the last few weeks when conditions have been changing from hour to hour. I am very sorry to those of you who have travelled here only to find Bushyleaze closed, we are doing our best. Please don't rely on internet forums, their angler reports are , mostly, totally unreliable and seem to be inhabited by people who have nothing better to do than cause trouble.

I am hoping there is a thaw approaching this weekend although snow is forecast tonight. I do hope you will have "withdrawal symptoms" and come out when the weather improves. I am determined to keep our prices at present levels for the next year but we have a lot of catching up to do. I will also be looking at a huge sale in the shop when the weather improves...anything to improve cash flow. Enough....

Angling Reports for Lechlade, December 2009.

260 Anglers had 921 fish, 416 were "doubles". Mr Walker of Swindon had the largest at 15lbs 7oz and Mr Nicholls of Gwent had a fish of just under 15lbs. Best flies were Gold Head Daddies, Green damsels and yellow dancers.

Bushyleaze:

182 Anglers had 745 fish. There were a huge amount of fish around the six to seven pound mark. Mr Pickles from Stoke had a fish of nine and a half pounds and Mr Harding, from Kent, had a fish of just under seven pounds. I am sure that I saw a lot of fish bigger than that, which were obviously not recorded on the returns cards. Best Flies were Dawl Bachs and Black and Green Buzzers.

Its nice to see that the fishery holds us in such high esteem. It did make me laugh, but who would you trust? I suppose they are quite right about us, we have no idea.

As for the fishing, it is a good time to fish Lechlade at the moment, even with the fishery is half frozen, if you can fish the garden or from a boat on the top boay, you will bag up (it can be a little to easy).

Blimey, who rattled Ferrari Tim's cage?
A quick check through recent-ish posts relating to his Franken-fish outfit (and the much more palatable Bushy) all seem to be very favourable?
Looks like he's happy to take your money but not criticism...
Come on, own up. Who was it!?!!??

Cheers

Andy

One question Andy, why is Bushy more palatable than Lechlade? Is it simply because the fish are smaller? they all come out of the same ponds!

Hi Daniel, i'll be down there with a friend on the 30th Jan at the moment, providing it doesn't freeze again. I know it's tempting fate, but Lechlade should be on peak form now, for the next few months, and the fish will pull your arm off.

Good to see you if you can make the 30th.

Cheers
Alex
