ive heard its closing as it is run in house and has been declared as economically unviable. i have been told phil has been made redundant a real shame imo as he has worked wonders done there but what else do we expect from S&T same routine as formark and draycote me thinks

I know they are taking bookings for next year.

I hope it's still open as it's IMO the best reservoir around.

I hope the rumours about Phil are untrue as he was making a real go of the place and has cracked the stocking policy.

I don't know what S&T are doing with their fisheries as they have some of the best around and don't give a s**t.

I don't think Phil was made redundant, I had heard he'd just had enough of ST and packed it in to disappear off somewhere hot However, I've also heard its still going to open, but on what basis who knows. Checked back in my e-mails and the last e-mail report they seemed to send out was the penultimate one, ie no report for the last week of the season, which seemed a bit ominous unless I just didn't receive it for some reason. Nothing about next season on website either. Doesn't exactly fill you with confidence does it. Tittesworth went, Draycote now gone, Carsington who knows - all the big waters near me basically. Great. Blithfield now seems my only option for something similar. Way to go ST, even managed to have a hand in polluting the Trent near me too.

Just had an e-mail from Phil saying that Severn Trent will not be running Carsington for the 2010 season. The fishery is to be put up for lease, meaning that the fishery staff have been made redundant.

"Dear All

It is with regret and sadness I have to inform you that Severn Trent Water will no longer be running Carsington Water Fishery in house. It is their intention to put the fishery up for lease and to have it operational for the 2010 season. As a result the fishery team jobs have been made redundant and we no longer work for Severn Trent Water.

I would like to take this opportunity, on behalf of all the team who have worked with me at Carsington Water, to thank all our customers for their support over the last four seasons and to say that I hope you have enjoyed fishing with us as much as we have enjoyed providing excellent fishing for you.

So it only remains for me to wish you "Tight Lines" for all your future fishing

and to say (in the words of Douglas Adams)........"So long and thanks for all the fish!"

Kind regards
Phil

Angry more ham-fisted, short-sightedness from Severn Trent

I've just received the email too.

'It is their intention to put the fishery up for lease and to have it operational for the 2010 season'

They announce this in mid-Jan???

Severn Trent have clearly made a corporate decision to cease their investment in fly-fishing - I wonder why?
And the method in which they do this is typically short-sighted, ham-fisted and arrogant and, it seems, designed to make the job extra-tough for anyone who does decide to take it over.

Anyone know anyone who may be interested in taking it over?

It seems that these fisheries can be run profitably (for example I assume Foremark is doing ok even with the restricted bank fishing),which is presumably at the heart of their decision, just not by them.
