Default Glen of rothes update

Happily to report some light at the end of the white tunnel.having just got back from the fishery,we are clearing the road today into the fishery which due to the last clearance of snow has helped to make it alot easier. There is water to fish in and we are looking for an opening for fishing on Saturday all being well.Thats the picture as of thursday 7th.

happy New year to all

Default Glen of Rothes

Hi MFF

Happy New Year to you too

Glad you are in control of your snow drifts. We haven't quite got to grips with ours!

Pictures here not loaded properly. As usual, trying again. Click the image to open in full size.

Someone decided to empty his driveway of snow, and dumped the entire consignment 15 yards up our back drive. We cannot get a car out of the garage anyway, but it will be interesting to see whether or not he removes this considerable heap of snow without also removing the toby, which is under there somewhere!

Fishing on Saturday at G of R? Very good!

Trish

Default update 12th Jan 2010

Just back from the fishery and there is at last a thaw,We have arranged that the road should be cleared in the next couple of days and with decent thaw should be ready and we are looking at being open as from saturday, again weather depending. There is a wind today which is helping to clear even more water and with the amount of snow it has helped to make any ice under it not solid but very slushy so it should clear with decent temperatures. There is a decent amount of water open in the main loch and also the bait loch.We may open sooner but that will depend on depth of snow lowering for safety at the edges of the bank and anglers need to be carefull and take time when near the edges. That is the update and we hope to see you soon.

Default update 16th

Saturday update 9.30am:- As of today the car park is now been cleared and the only problem is that it and the road has ice on it and is unsafe ,both for walking on and for cars. The good news is that this is melting fast and we will be looking at it again at 8 am tomorrow and see how it is then.We have a good wind there at the minute which is helping alot and there is plenty of open water for fishing and the only problem is getting cars in.Safety has to be priority and we intend to put up a report between 8 and 9am sunday morning to say we are open or not, for fishing on sunday.Alternatively on sunday between 8 and 9, you can ring the fishery 01340831888 or the mobiles no and ask if its open for fishing sunday.
Our main problem is not open water to fish, which there is plenty, but access, plus safety our main consideration and value for the angler.

Default Update sunday 17th.Now open.

Further update Sunday 17th:- happily we are open for business now.Fishing this morning has been good with a nice brownie being caught also.By tuesday we should have things back to normal. We do advise extreme caution when coming in the road to the fishery due to ice but cars have got in today with care,if unsure do not attempt it.4x4,s will have no problems.but after tuesday it should be fine with cars. There is plenty of water open in the main lochs now for fishing.

Every fish is individual, some will be some may not, they dont all spawn on the same day ,the same minute and recondition the same time.Is it the same with salmon? If so why start to fish for them in january. Will you only get out of condition fish or a chance of a fresh one?
At 1and half pounds I would say it was nice brownie, being wild aswell, not stocked.Im sure many would be happy with that, maybe some ,not.

Default Wednesday 20th update

We are now fully open with the road entry now sorted and no problems at all.Overnight the wind has done us a big favour and has opened the water that the main loch is now all clear apart from 2 small ice patches which should clear today, the small loch has now also started to open up aswell, bait loch is open and the coarse loch has now started to clear aswell.
The good news is that there is plenty of open water now and the pumps have done well.easily plenty of water for over 40+ anglers to fish in comfort.

Complete updates as they happen are on the homepage as normal.
Dates of upcoming events also on website.
