mike, it always fishes, what i mean is that you can always get your fish. even if you need to resort to pulling a big "nymph" through the deeps. barry will put you right. i rarely fish the lakes now as the grayling are so big in the river. have a good one and let us know how you get on. jon mcmillan

Awesome - thanks Jon. Have been wanting to fish there for a while now. Stopped in there a while back after a day at Manningford and have been wanting to get back. All set for Saturday morning ;¬)

No prices on the website that I can see. How much for a grayling ticket and is it worth it?

they river prices vary from trout to grayling season i think its £40 for the grayling but its worth it. i have had fish to 2lbs and seen some bigger. there are also a few really big escapees that are impossible to avoid if you are deep nymphing. phone barrie at the fishery to confirm that price as i have done a bit of work for him in the past, i havent paid for fishing for ages down there. enjoy the place and let us know how you do, jon mcmillan.

The advice you have recieved is sound. Although I have not been there for a while, if you can get in there, start at the short bank at the far end of the 1st lake. I believe that is where the spring is sourced. However, you are likely to catch all over the lake. In winter, I have had most success with damsels with some flash in them but black buzzers will do the business if the sun is shining.

Just checked this years "Get Hooked" its £45 a day ticket and £35 for a half day. The mixed lake/river is on application, so you will need to contact them as per the website.

regards

Vince

Hi Vince

Many thanks for the advice - much appreciated. The mixed lake/river option sounds tempting - especially with the prospects of catching grayling which is something I have yet to do !

Cheers
Mike

No problem. I have not fished the river yet, I'm still wearing the "L" plates for that element of the sport. However, I have peered around the bushes in the river nearest to the entrance and there were some sizable beasties lying there.
