Thumbs up New haylie:Your Fishery Needs Your Support

With the season gone and only memories remain of fish rising to smash the dries on offer we now approach the time of year every fishery owner wishes would never come.
I'm sure most will agree the season was fruitfull with most local fisheries stocking regularly with quality fish and now winter is upon us some fisheries close down, some open only at weekends but many remain open all winter.
It is with this in mind I urge you to support your local fisheries during the winter months weather prevailing or I fear many doors will be closing in this uncertain economic climate.
With so many fisheries changing hands of lately remember this is not because it is a licence to print money but in most cases the business is failing and eager new blood step up to make their fortune and i wish each and every one of them well in their new ventures but a reacurring phrase arises in the fishery owners conversations, its a labour of love owning a fishery not a get rich quick business.
Just as i pledged in June to stock weekly and have continued to do so with fish arriving again today. Its all very well stocking quality hard fighting fish but the fishery has to be fished all be it great sport for me when ever i feel like wetting a line, but to continue to keep stocking, needs your support which helps us to keep the doors open so you can fish anytime you have holidays half days or just a few hours to yourself.
I assure you your local fishery manager will be pleased to see you so help spread it about and keep your local fisheries ticking over in the winter close season.
Thanks to everyone for their continued support thus far and i am sure this is reiterated by all fishery managers through out Scotland.

I wholeheartly agree with your sentiments and read with a little sadness but also there is alot of truths there which many anglers dont understand or in fact some dont even care as it doesnt effect them directly.
Fisheries do take much grief when things are not going the anglers way and we get many ways of what we should do and when and if we do it those who suggest it are never there to see it.
I could write a book on this subject myself and seen many managers come and go and ideas implemented over the years.
It is those who are do it with passion and to make a living that try the best to keep going and there is many who come in and use it for other reasons and try to kill off others who are only trying to make a living and provide a good service to their anglers with alot of CARE and they should be supported for this, but sadly it never happens when it comes to it.

I have said it before the only ones who make a fortune in fisheries are those who come into it with a fortune.Others who do it are happy to make a living doing what they enjoy. These are plain facts and as you say I would urge all anglers to support fisheries who do it for you, because they care and not for other reasons.I work closely with many fisheries about me and we help each other. Some wont which is their choice.

George and Kevin i understand that this is a difficult time for owners like yourself and i do try and get out as often as my wallet and wife and kids will let me (which is not often enough, i so hope she never gets to see this, lol), i guess it is alot easier when the weather is decent with a great hatch morning night and day with the place bubbling with rising fish, i for one dont really enjoy pulling lures but love fishing and dont mind the cold so catch 22.

best of luck over the colder months

Kevin

I fully understand and being honest standing freezing and fishing I take my hat off to those who do venture out and I do it myself but im picky on the days.
I know that myself and partners appreciate every angler who comes to us and we cant thank them enough.

I love nothing more than going fly fishing on a beautiful crisp frosty morning,so hopefully the weather will be kind to you guys over the coming months.I really feel for you guys at this time of year as we all have money issues especially when we have young kids.
As an idea what if in these months a season style ticket from say Nov-Feb was made available to entice anglers in Quieter times.Maybe for catch and release ? i dont know maybe you guys have alredy tried this out.

i do a winter c&r ticket and its getting more popular but as the thread suggests, some fisheries just cant stay open through a hard winter.

Thumbs up winter tickets

I would certainly look at winter tickets if it helps keep the wolf from the doors and was of benefit by way of cost incentive to customers.

I noted Alex said he already operates this be interested to find out his thoughts on it.

Never went down the route of fly comps or bait comps but it does cross my mind from time to time always worried about turning people away but if there not here??????

George.
