Whilst i agree that Draycote is an excellent fishery; and it would be a huge loss to the angling community should it close i don't believe it is Britains best fishery.

Consistantly in my top 5 .....but personally I feel that Grafham & Rutland are better...and the Lake of Mentieth.

Anyway sorry to digress for the importance of the original thread

Just my opinion,we could debate this all day,so lets not get away from the fact that Keith is the real loser here and needs all our support.

Depends what criteria you are judging it on, Rob - There are plenty of grown on/overwintereds in there as well as stockies, don't forget. Also, compare and contrast the time spent and advice given by Keith C upon requesting info in the lodge at Draycote before going out fishing and that received when at Rutland for example (the Normanton Shrug best describes it) - unless you are in the cognosenti that is......... The upshot of what I once got told in the lodge at Rutland when asking advice, was that I could fish any fly, on any line, anywhere on the lake....... and that is not an exaggeration.

Where Keith has gone wrong is being in the unfortunate position of working on behalf of Severn Trent Plc, the management of which are the most useless, short sighted, inept bunch of angling antis in existence on the surface of the planet. I hope the tide of bad PR and sh1t storm that will follow this will do them at least some damage - lets make sure we all wade in............

As i said it's a great fishery and one of my favourites....but not "the best" in my opinion..

Customer service that's better than Rutland.....well i'd be dissappointed if it wasn't !

Anyway that aside...we're all loosers if the water closes.....

Angry So sad and angry

Like the rest I feel for Keith - As along with ourselves as anglers this is a big loss.

Ian - as for ST - when we attacked them over foremark and had a meeting with their communications director - he was totally unconcerned with bad publicity. In his own words he stated that
'if the court case over overcharging customers that we lost only made a difference of 2p on the share price then any bad publicity that the anglers could kick up causes us no concerns '.

They will just railroad their plans through - unless we can get major shareholders to back us - then they will just carry on. There was also a thread on Carsington also having changes - however unlike Draycote this has not been confirmed as yet.

It looks like what they started at foremark they are carrying through at all their waters - as they said they would. The closure is just a method of implementing the changes.

I have a feeling this is just the beginning of the end.

I don't think ST have any long term interest in angling on their waters.

If Draycote closes next season, I don't think it will reopen. My belief is ST are trying to soften the blow by only announcing a one season closure now, then once we are all used to it being closed and using other waters, late next year they will announce a permanent closure of all angling.

The Government needs to step in here, we can't allow our privatised utilities to continue stamping all over us like this.

Those utilities belonged to the country and we gave them away for peanuts to foreign companies for goodness sake.

The Pirate.

I think Pirates and Buzzermans last messages are perfect justification for joining the Angling Trust. I for one will be joining now - we need to make our collective voices heard and I believe the Trust is the best vehicle to do this.
