Default Powdermill reservoir - Sedlescombe

I have been watching this forum for a few months to see if anyone fished this venue and so far it has drawn a blank. Are there any Powdermill regulars out there? I am new to the sport and live very near the reservoir. I have been told it is very difficult to fish, but can say from experience that it is a wonderful setting for a day out, calm and relaxing. I enjoy my time there whether I catch or not. Which is good because I have only caught one fish in seven outings.

I keep looking for posts , but there are none. Come on guys, let us novices know what is catching the fish and where. Give us a chance!

Kind regards,

Russell.

I fished Powdermill this afternoon and caught a 1lb 14oz rainbow, my second ever trout so it was a success. I hooked another and lost it and caught a perch too. I was using a woolly bu**er and sink tip line. There were a few others fishing, most drew a blank, but one guy managed 5, not sure what he was using. The water level is getting extremely low and the old road is now exposed. A very pleasant afternoon.

Visited Powdermill again today, not much going on! There were 8 people fishing. I managed to catch a perch, another guy managed to catch a small Brown Trout a Rudd and two Perch, otherwise nothing that I was aware of! Plenty of fish about, but they did not seem to want what people were offering them. I still enjoyed the day and learned a little more. Looking forward to winter prices as I seem to spend a fortune and catch very little, LOL.

Went to Powdermill today, lovely weather and I was the only person there for the full morning. I had a couple of bites but nothing during the morning. I was fishing from the dam at the club house end.

Early afternoon things changed. I managed to catch two rainbow trout of around 2lb each , I hooked three others, but they managed to get off the hook before I could land them. I also caught 2 perch, both fairly big ones. All were caught on one of my own flies, a woolly ****** fished high.

Two more people turned up early afternoon and took a boat out, I saw one catch a trout, but do not know how they faired.

A great day for me with me doubling my total number of trout caught!!

Default Fishing is on the up

I went fishing at Powdermill sporadically through the winter and caught the odd trout, each time on a woolly ******. Most times I blanked and the only thing I caught was a cold!

I have just joined the Hastings Flyfishers' Club and can now visit the reservoir at anytime.

This week I have been twice and things are definitely hotting up. On Saturday I went for a few hours and caught 2 rainbows all on pheasant tail nymphs. Yesterday I went for four hours and caught 6 rainbow trout and a big Rudd on buzzers. I met a guy who has helped me considerably and have subsequently emptied my fly box and tied a load more suitable flies.

Both visits were on good sunny days and the reservoir was reasonably busy.
