Default Easter Balado, Kinross

Great wee trout fly fishery.

The water area is 7.5 acres apparently and it's situated in an old gravel pit well secluded, slightly sunk down from the adjacent arable land and just a short distance from the main road. It's a well maintained bit of water with good management, accurate stocking policy and a friendly fishery manager at the caravan/hut. Being a spring-fed piece of water, this allows for cooler water in summer and more-stable parameters thru the winter months. Clean and tidy banks, benches and small trestle tables scattered around. There's loads of wildlife around and those wee microlights to watch in the sky above buzzing away to the north from the old airstrip at Balado.

Went there a couple weeks back for a 4hr/3fish session (£20) and only drew a blank - tried buzzers, nymphs, lures........the lot. Went back the next day and after a couple hours, just as light was fading caught a nice, hard-fighting and clean finned 'bow at 2lb 6 oz on a dry daddy long legs.

Thought I'd go back and have another look-see yesterday, another 4hr/3 fish limit session, ideal conditions for fishing and walked away a happy man with 3 beautifull rainbows for 6lb 8oz.

It's not a busy fishery and all the better for it, plenty room around the water for a few folks to spread themselves about. The area/bank along the caravan side fishes well as does the left bank towards the bottom end where the spring enters (this area fishes well too). But all sides are worth a go as wind direction etc dictates. The wind can be changeable but with the fishery being slightly lower than the surrounding farmland, winds are not so much of an issue. Dry lines, midge-tip, generally slightly sinking tips and wet flies are the best bet I reckon with most fish feeding just below the surface but when there's a good rise on...........the water can nearly boil!

Well worth a wee visit perhaps.

Sam

Cool Easter Balado

I,m a regular at Balado and i have to say it is maybe the best dry fly& buzzer small trout fishery about since newton shut its doors years ago. The water clarity is top notch, good quality fish with some top wild brown that will test any top feather chucker.

Default easter balado

I dont know if there is a web site but it is easy ti find. get on the motorway down to kinross, come of the motorway at kinross ,take the third exit that takes you to heathery ford but keep going for about half a mile, look for sign on the left side of the road that says easter balado and follow the signs for the fishery its really easy to find. Was there last wednesday and had a double first cast and had another 6 all on a small cormorant on a midge tip line.
