Hi all,

We are thinking about trying Westlow Mere for the first time this coming Friday. Any info on how its fishing would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Mat

Hi
Fished it Thursday night and landed 8 with many takes and pulls, but not many people were catching as well.
Paul, in the lodge, said it fished well in the day with many mayfly about, but in the evening the caenis were up - fish rising but difficult to tempt until the rain started or at dusk.
Try a small hares ear and or buzzer sub-surface.
Neil.

Well we made our visit on Friday and were greeted in the lodge by a couple of very friendly club members who gave us advice on areas and flies to try.

The fish were high up in the water all day, with the odd one taking Mayfly through the afternoon. Although they were feeding just under the surface, I tried lots of different dries which, apart from one fish on a claret suspender buzzer only brought lots of swirls and tentative looks. My mate however was fishing diawl bachs very slowly and although he too had lots of missed fish, did manage to hook and land a lot more. It wasn't until I too switched to the diawl bach that we were both catching consistantly until a very heavy shower at around 18.00 put the fish off. I finished the day with 10 to his 16 and at £10 for the day (c&r), we think it is cracking value.

Well worth a visit!

Mat
