Thumbs up Duncton Mill Fishery

Duncton Mill Fishery

Duncton Mill Fishery nestled at the foot of the South Downs in West Sussex, in an area of outstanding natural beauty, 4 miles south of Petworth just off the A285, easy accessible from London.
We are a members only water from March till October, BUT from
MONDAY 14th OCTOBER we are open to DAY TICKETS.
The lakes are fed from the springs at the foot of the downs. We have 4 lakes, stocked with good quality fighting fish from out own farm.
There is a small shop on site, a comfortable club room with wood burning stove and complimentary tea and coffee available througout the day.
Look forward to welcoming you to Duncton Mill in the near future.
We will try to post details of how the lakes are fishing on a regular basis, to keep you all informed.

I fished Duncton Mill once a few years ago when the fishery did a similar offer for S&TA members. From what I remember - attractive fishery and really good quality fish.

What are the winter day ticket options in terms of price, bag limit and so on, please ?

I went today & was amongst about 10 people at the fishery.
I was fishing a 4 fish ticket which was let's say may have been rather optimistic after looking at the returns book.
Had a couple of follows & pulls in the morning but no fish. Absolutely zilch on nymphs & a floater, so had to resort to lures after 2 or 3 hours.
Was about to jack it in but took a 2lb 2oz brown when casting to a much bigger (6-8lb) fish swimming alongside it.
It took an Ace of Spades on the drop, as did a 2lb rainbow about 30 minutes later.

Spoke to a season ticket member on the way out who said "you did well to catch at all".
He also said he likes a challenge & that's why he fishes Duncton Mill.
I said I like a challenge too, but I'm here to catch fish or else I'd clip-off the hook at the bend!
Not sure that went down too well & also my comments about half the other people blanking today & a distinct lack of fish rising/moving or just visibly cruising.
1 other guy had 2, a couple had 1 fish & about 5 people had none.

Would I go again?
Probably not on this showing, to be brutally honest.

Have fished Duncton a fair bit and had my biggest rainbow at 10-13 from there.
However it does seem to have got harder over the course of time with(imho) a reduction in the overall size of fish and seemingly less of them.A lovely spot with nice facilities.

I fished there not so long ago , and was disappointed by the catch reports too, on the day it read "best fish 2lb" best bag 2-4lb" i managed abit better than that , but it is a nice and friendly venue , but i looked around the lakes and apart from the first one it was hard to see any fish at all even though it was gin clear and you could see large areas of water to the bottomGaz

Smile The Big One !!!

Interested to hear other peoples experiences - fishing well this week, a friend was fishing on 22/10/09, and managed to catch a monster 18lb 8oz Rainbow - caught on a Red Damsel - a fabulous specimen with great fins - good quality fighting fish. A wonderful mornings entertainment, with other anglers standing by to encourage and cheer as the fish was landed - check out the Fishery web site for photo's of the event!! Thats when its great to have that camera standing by for prosperity.

Nice to see the updated web site, will the catch reports be updated and posted?.
I have to say that if i lived in that neck of the woods i would fish there a lot more;at £30 for 4 fish it's not bad value, although a season ticket would be the way to go.

Similar experience. Duncton Mill has to be one of the prettiest fisheries around but ultimately, if you're not catching - and you can't even see a fish - is there any point?

It's a shame.
