Default Oxfordshire advice

Hi there.

I am taking a friend of mine fishing in a week or two and he has never been fly fishing before. I am looking for a lake around Oxford where he is likely to be able to get a few fish and not have to cast too far. So far the best idea i have come up with is to get a boat out a Farmoor. i have not lived in the area long so dont know many fisheries.

Any advice guys?

Dan

I would recommend Barn Elms aswell, took my 9ry old there for his first trip, very suitable for newbies, fish are in close ,and not to daunting.Dont try Felix fishery at Maidenhead, very hard.

Hello Daniel, there are a few places I would recommend in Oxfordshire.
Blenheim palace, fished this with another forum member lovely place.
Barns lakes not fished it myself but Bailif (Grahame the Bleinham gamekeeper)fishes there maybe drop him a pm.
Farmoor fished it once, bit daunting for me but superb rangers very helpful. Will be back there.
Bushyleaze is my haunt at the moment, may help your friend as they will do an hours lesson for £20. I did this, ask for Howard to teach, smashing bloke.
If you do decide on Busheyleaze drop me a pm and I will try to impart my limeted knowledge of tactics locations etc.

Hope this helps

Sean

I see you're near Lockinge Sean, nice fishery there but not that easy to get on.

I've got a few fishing days planned over the next few weekends so any Bushy or Blenheim reports would be appreciated. Might head to Bushyleazre on Sunday. I fished Farmoor I a few times recently and found it hard going, looking for a change of scenery. Happy to PM.

Thankyou guys, would have taken me ages to search out those places. Salford sounds pretty good, how does it normally fish? Is the water clear enough to stalk trout?

Also how is Bushyleaze fishing atm? I had a day at Lechlade recently and was severely disappointed finding most of the fish covered in fungi!!!!

Hi Dan,

You won't have the fungus problem at Bushy, the fish are always very good in there, but i wouldnt recommend it to a beginner. most people fish with waders there as the fish can be a little way out which doesn't bode well for a beginner. there are boats which eliminates this problem, but theyre only suitable for one.

Dan, i am going to come to Lechlade with you some time in the winter to show you what the place is really like...

Don't know if it might be a bit far but if you want to near guarantee catching some good fish in easy pleasant surroundings try Bransford near Malvern.
