Default Boat grounded at Hanningfield

A polite warning to anyone planning a trip out in Hanningfield in the near future.

Hanningfield Resevoir is very low this year and I ended up run aground not once, not twice but thrice this morning!!

All in Middlemead and up to 30m from the shoreline. The water was very murky and it was very overcast so one could nary see the bottom unless standing up and peering overboard - not advised when motoring

Was utterly bizzare running aground out in the middle of a big bay

There is also a large rock just sticking out of the water on the other side of Middlemead across the water from the pump house; rather dangerous.

Heck, I heard that one of teh wardens even drove over the Bubble Line in the fishery RIB and cut it in half!

A dangerous place to be, Hanningfield

Sounds a bit dangerous to me, Captain Birdseye.

No fear,James, I could have walked back across the resevoir!!

Natural bank has about 10m of exposed shoreline and the shoreline around at teh inlet has even more.

The Mole is almost completely exposed.

Dire fishing there this weekend. Had four hrs yesterday afternoon and four this morning too and had one nibble this morning to show for my troubles

Ben

Funny that, Pete, I would feel safer in a 15ft skiff in 6ft swell off Durban than in a murky Hanningfield where you cannot see or judge the depth.

I do feel the Wardens (as polite and knowlegable as they are) should warn people before they go out where the low water is.

8 weeks to go before we hit Cape Town and thenback up to Durban. Should be the start of the Summer gamefish season - billfish, king macks, queen macks, GT's, yellowfin etc

I have two orange rapalas waiting to get wet
