Default Newton Stewart stillwaters/lochs

Evening folks, Im off on my jollys next week, we are staying in the Newton Stewart area and I'm looking for some info on stillwaters or lochs I can fish. Can anyone reccomend anywhere? Ive fished Glenquicken before and will probably have a day out there but any other info would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

Default newton stewart lochs

hi pete ,
loch dee has probably the best looking brown trout any where in the uk .fished a charity competition on loch ochiltree last week 36 anglers 170 rainbows . caught mostly stockies but holds good head of overwintered fish also superb browns .
tight lines Tam.

ps both lochs also hold large pike.

Thanks Tam, both Dee and ochiltree are on my list for next week.

Are there any areas I should focus on or is it just a matter of finding them?

Cheers for the help

Default loch dee and ochiltree

Hi pete, try all the points and bays from half way up the loch on the left hand side, right round to the sandy shore on the top end of the loch. Round the jetty can also produce good sport, travel light and be prepared for a good stroll.
On Ochiltree depending on where the wind is, start from the boat house and go either left or right handed whichever way suits for your casting, there are good fish all over the loch, again try all the points and bays, i would also advise you not to wade at Ochiltree at present as the loch is pretty full, there are lots of big rocks and deep holes close to the shore, as for flies just the same as u would use at home, lines, floater, midge tip and maybe a fast glass for stripping if you need it. Hope this helps.

tight lines
tam

Havnt fished it myself, but i know plenty who have, and all fish it with chest waders,
but watch because some parts have large boulders, that you could fall over.

Default loch dee and ochiltree

hi pete,
a lot of the locals do like being up to their armpits ,especially round on the sandy shore ., you deffinately don't need them just use the points and search the water like you nomally would .and be lucky ,if you let me know which day your going to ochiltree i'll try to get over and have a craic if you like.all the best Tam.
