Default Straid Fishery Northern Ireland

Straid Fishery Report

Strong winds and heavy rain battered Straid over the last few weeks and although not nice weather it certainly proved to be good for fishing.

Paul Cassin had the weeks best fish which topped the scales at 4lb 8oz. Paul also had a nice fish of 3lb for his 2 fish ticket. Both fish were caught on small sized shipmans with Paul going down to a size 18 to tempt 10 to the boat. Aidan Lavery made a visit to the 22 acre lake and enjoyed a good days fishing taking 18 fish on4 home for 8lb 3oz. Aidan took most of his tally on small dries. Pat Smith used a floating fry to tempt 8 to the bank. Tony McMurtry used lures and buzzers to net 8 also while boat partner Geoff Kitchen landed 7. Tony released fish around the 4lb mark and a few of these lovely fish are starting to show as they hunt for food to keep themselves in good condition over the winter. Harry Graham continues to fish his small dries to good effect taking plenty of fish from the surface. Colin Halliday had a good catch releasing 8 fish with 4 of them around 3-4lb.

Rises of fish are still occurring during the day with early afternoon seeing many fish rise and take Cow dung flies which are still coming off the banks.

Straid is now taking bookings for its Boxing Day competition which always proves to be very popular with local anglers. More information can be obtained from the fishery on 02893340099 and with a prize fund of £150 and a few other prizes coming from sponsors.

I have always been a river and big Lough fisher , But AY has done very good work to this place, cleaned it up , and stocked with very good full finned fish ,

I will be fishing it now the river season is over ..

Anyone that has not fished here for a while , should give it a go . It has been turned around. Good work Mr Young
