Default Pennine Fishery - thoughts???

I'm trying this venue for the first time next Tuesday. There aren't many comments on previous postings about this venue. Would I be right with the impression that it's a bit more artificial than most stocked waters?

I prefer to use imitations without bungs, christmas trees, hovis flies, pellet flies etc is this venue a good venue to be a bit traditional? Or will I be completely outfished by my friends on this outing using those blob things, and borrow one to step one foot on the thin end of the slippery slope to the Dark Side?

How is it fishing at the moment?

Any advice will be gratefully received.

Cheers,
Courty

It's well stocked Courty so your friends will score well on the bung, eggs, zonkers, flexi-floss worms, blobs, and various other lures. On the top lake there is a silty bay furthest corner away from the lodge, this is a good spot for buzzers particularly if you're willing to suspend one or two underneath a dry (a Hopper will do).

Fish will rise throughout the day so you can just stick to the dries without the need to revert to the dark arts as you put it. It's getting near to Sedge time so a dry Hedgehog, or other Sedge pattern will do the trick particulary if you are fishing late in the day, it's not a bad midge and olive water either and a Black Shipmans or Olive Bristol Hopper can also do well.

You'll get your line pulled.

Regards,
Terry

I visited it once.....tried to fish it 'properly', and got completely out-fished by my colleague who spent the entire day pulling a 3 inch long fritz mostrosity back on a slime line.

To be honest I thought it was a kiddie's pond.

Oh my colleague had a great time alright......but then he has always been something of a brain-dead cretinous imbecile with appalling lack of imagination

Default thanks for the answers

Cheers guys,
I'll sort out some appropriate flies as suggested and buy some heavier tippet too.

One of the people I'm fishing with is very excited about the chance of catching a monster, and his enthusiasm is catching, so I'm really looking forward to this trip, even if it might not be to catch the wiliest of wild trout.

Well, I stood around a small pond full of visibly enormous rainbows. I managed to blank on the day, foolishly refusing to use a bung or the feathery "budgie" flies being sold at the hut as the best flies to use.

I tried the hopper with midge dropper without success. I had a pull on a green headed montana, put on in desperation, but was so shocked, I missed it.

Maybe I am still a bad fly fisher in my first season, but my impression of this place is a small pond with people crammed round the edges.

This may be a fantastic venue for some, but it is as far from a natural venue as you can get. As for landing a record fish, if you can see them swimming round and round in front of you, what's the point?

Hi Courty, I hate pennine, you should try Arnfield.

Now that is a nice fishery.

Steve.

Interesting how your excitement about catching big fish changed to disgust after you visited it!! The fishing can't be that easy there if you blanked, and it doesn't matter if you can see teh fish, surely that adds to the excitement and despair when fishing for them! (after all you can see fish rising, or in clear rivers too) - Pennine has its place, imo it's perfect for an escape and a bit of sport...
