It's actually fishing pretty well because the water temp is a little lower than some other fisheries, because of the natural springs.
My advice - get there for 08:00 so you can start at 08:30 promptly. You'll be lucky to get much action between 10:00 & 15:00.
Don't go on a weekend or Friday because they had 20 anglers there Friday last week. This is a 4 or 5 too many in my opinion.
The water is crystal clear at the moment, so on a day with so many anglers all chucking stuff at any larger fish, anything half-decent looking is well & truly freaked-out after the first few hour's fishing.
They do stock plenty of fish in the 2 1/2 to 4lb range, with a couple of 8lb+ fish in each lake apart from the tiny North pool.
£38 for a 4 fish day ticket isn't too bad, either.

I seem to recall Avington was £25 for a d/t in 1987. Perhaps Chalk Springs was £20 back then. That's fishing in the SE of England (& inflation!) for you.

Avington is now £72 and CS is around £30. Ive fished it regularly and find it good value. This year has seen fewer of the huge browns, but there are still a few to cast at! last tiem i was there i'd guess 50/50 browns to rainbows which is remarkable, and i prefer fishing for brownies by far. Don't discard the small north pool, there's usually one very good fish in there, right up by the inflow or by the outflow. the E and W lakes are also good.

Tight lines!

I guess this is why the premier small stillwaters are still going.

over the last ten years has seen a few close and others just run down and quite shabby. We wish it was cheaper but at least they are still there, and hopefully making a profit.
