With the popularity of this section we feel the time has come to give specific waters their own sub forums as we have started to do for rivers.

We would then like to put in some standard sticky threads to help control these forums and would propose introducing sticky threads such as General Discussion, Fishery Reports/Catches, Fishing Conditions and Tackle Requirements. Perhaps Fishing Clubs?

Members can of course then add any thread they would like as now.

All ideas welcome on this and we will then set up a standard format for all key waters.

Just me ,but I feel we are getting too many sections.if I want to know about a fishery wil do a search or scroll through either rivers or stillwaters.
If it aint broke why fix it ????

No problem in trying some new ideas.
But if they don't work then be prepared to take them down again.
I do agree that we are getting more and more sections and that makes it time consuming and confusing to track some things down.
But there is always the search facility for specific waters.

Agreed, although if you use the New Posts button, it doesn't matter how many sub-forums there are because you just see the new posts rather than have to fuss about looking for them.

Assuming that the specific water has been spelt correctly, or identified properly. There's no quicker way to raise an angry mob round here than to correct someone's spelling, yet without consistent spelling, the smartest search engines in the world are going to struggle.

I remember a post not long ago where someone asked how "the lake" was fishing. By a process of elimination, it was established that he was talking about the Lake of Menteith, but I wouldn't fancy the chances of that making much sense to any search engine.

And try searching for something like Derwent, for example and then try to work out whether you're reading about Derwent in Northumberland, Derwent Water in Cumbria, or any one of the assorted River Derwents (I know of five, but I'm sure there are more than that).

We agree in admin there is a danger in having too many forums but the alternative is to have fewer cluttered up with numerous posts.

The use of subcategories should make life simpler but keep ideas coming and we will take a look at best way forward.

There are already to many sections on the forum, subsections are simple something else to get past to find what I'm looking for, and are unnecessary.

If a large number of stillwaters or rivers have active threads - then the activity will dictate where and when they appear.

The new subsection under Rivers is rediculous and not necessary.

Why should a couple of fisheries / rivers be given special treatment? Who decides which appear at the top?

I haven't posted much on the forum recently, as I now find the massive number of sections annoying.

Introducing subsections.......... I really can't be bothered visiting or posting anymore.

Hi Admin,

As a new member (only signed up yesterday) I think I can see the benefit. This is a massive site with so many different elements of the sport meeting in one place. As my name suggests, my passion is wilderness fishing (particularly the highlands of scotland). As a novice on using the forum I am relying on the search facility and then having to troll (pardon the pun) through lots of irrelevant post in order to find one of interest. Whilst I do love to read (and learn) from people who indulge in different elements of our art, it would also be nice to know that forum "X" contains waters in "X" area. Therefore, rather than break into numerous subfolders of single venues, might I suggest you break it up into regions?
