Default Should this fishery have been open?

Myself and Mrs Grey had a day at Chalk Springs today. After a quick chat with the guy in the lodge who told us that 'Some people were catching, some were not...' we decide on a 4 fish ticket each. We are both reasonable fishers and have done OK at there before...
After 7 hours I had one fish and the other half nothing. During the day I only saw 3 other fish caught and the fishery was pretty busy.
Question is, assuming that the owner/manager must have know that the fishery was not fishing at all well, or at all (and we are not talking about 'challenging' here, but nigh on impossible to catch) should he have opened for business or at least been a lot more honest about the chances of catching? Plenty of fisheries close during the summer months if extended periods of hot wheather adversly effect the fishing.
Now I now that most trout fisheries operate on very fine margins and if 100% of anglers caught their limit 100% of the time they would either go out of business very quickly or have much higher prices but is the approach displayed in the above story acceptable?

The problem appears to be you wanted to go "catching" as opposed to fishing.
I dont think the fishery can do much about that.

from my experiences from working in a fishery, i was honest to anglers if it wasnt fishing well but we didnt close because maybe a couple of bad days doesnt mean to say that that particular day wont fish brilliantly. The guy in the lodge seemed to tell you the truth that some anglers where catching and some wernt, if he has said it was fishing brilliantly then personally i would be a bit peeved off.

Sometimes have to take the rough with the smooth. We sometimes if it had been a particularly bad day in terms of weather and fishing was great we would give a free catch and release to the anglers fishing as an incentive to come back

Just my thoughts

Chris

Yes, it should've been open. Its up to the angler to choose whether he pays his money.

I've not known a fishery to close during extended periods of hot weather. Mind you, never known extended periods of hot weather up here either.

My club water is brown trout only and fishes badly in the summer - so i don't fish then.

Perfectly put........too many anglers suffering from limititis nowadays, isnt the fishery allowed to make a profit once in a while.........

You should enjoy the challenge of difficult fishing and congratulate yourself for catching when everyone else was struggling.

Actually I never expect to catch when I go fishing, but I do expect that a fishery should give me a chance to catch. I have had just as many blank days as the next man and worn them well.
Would you go fishing where there was virtually no chance of catching a fish?
My point is that the when you pay your hard earned to a fishery you expect that it is POSSIBLE to catch a fish.
Well yes, it was obviously possible to catch as a very small percentage did but my point is should a fishery have opened it doors and accepted peoples money knowing that the chances of catching were VERY slim and not being honest about this? It is this point that I don't think that the fishery was playing fair on.

I think that they got ripped-off. From the website I can see Chalk Springs is £38 for a four fish bag.

Should've gone here instead:-
