Hi,
May be wrong (usually am) but i was under the impression that trout stocking and fishing has ceased during the warm months, and will re-commence sometime in september. Just checked the web site and it states trout fishing (plus coarse fishing) on Damsel lake for £10.50 which suggests as above.
Perhaps give them a bell as may be quite difficult, not that there's anything wrong with that.
Del.

Fished Manor Farm, near Biggleswade, yesterday with my brother.
Was quite hard going, we had 8 between us (5-3 to him, grrrrr) ranging from 2 to 2 3/4 lbs, and all bar one were in perfect condition and quite scrappy. There did not seem to be any consistent method of tempting them apart from gettting close to the bottom of the deeper end of the water (near the entrance), our fish taking buzzer, montana, grhe, green and black/white lures. More a case of locating them I think.
All in all a good day, and at 20 quid for first 3 taken and c and r after, not bad value at all.
Regards, Del.

Yeah we fished it in a hurricane last weekend. Not easy but had a couple each and a few pulls. Booby on a Di7 was best for me.

I agree it's decent value, another guy had and returned a double and one of our mates had two fish in the 4-6lbs range.

Default Ok for winter/beginner

Could somebody give me the lowdown on Manor Farm?

I have convinced a mate that he really should take up the noble art and he appears hooked and has got some kit together. As he lives in Bedford I was wondering if Manor farm would be a suitable venue. He casts well considering hes only been 3 times and is desperate to christen his new rod.

Is the casting relatively unencumbered? Are the fish generally in good nick and not 100' away from the bank? Does the lake freeze up - were thinking of a trip soon? Any tips for this time of year?

Hope you can help

Cheers
Roger

Rog, It's a really nice little water and ideal for a beginner - good value (£20 for 3 fish plus C&R), a good mix of fish sizes (mostly1.5-2lbs but some bigger ones), fish are often very close in by the rushes and most methods work.

This time of year obviously deep fished lures are most successful, but I had a day between Xmas and New Year a couple of years ago when I had more than a dozen fishing buzzers under a bung. Bloodworm works well too.

The people running it are friendly and it is not "rule crazy" . How easy it is does depend on how recently stocked it has been but they tend to stock high over the Xmas period as they get a lot of trade then.

Perfect beginner's water and I think there are group lessons there occasionally.

Charlie

Hi Roger,
Echo what Charlie says, and yes casting is generally free of trees and bushes to hook on to. Early this month the fish my brother and I were catching were in top condition, very scrappy and as we are not expert casters at all, no more than 15 yards out.
Again as Charlie said, tuition is available, but not sure if on a group or individual basis.
Pop along; great value and extremely friendly. Only downside is the drone of the A1 close by.
Del.

Thanks Charlie and Delray,

Sounds good, I think we will give it a bash - ice permitting.

Cheers
Roger
