Weekending 2nd August
It is a pleasure to write such up upbeat and positive report for the 1st time in a few weeks. The lakes down at Witton Castle are now brim full,a little bit cooler and fishing their socks off.The recent deluge of rain has really done the trick in bringing Witton back to its best after the doldrum spell of mid summer.
Ken Stott of Cramlington hammered his previous best when he left the fishery delighted with his capture of an 11 1/2lb blue trout from under the oak tree on the south lake. This perfectly proportioned fish was fooled by Ken's olive nymph and led him a merry dance for 20 mins before being netted.
Ebchester's own 12 year old Liam Forster took his bag limit of 3 with fine fish of 5 1/2,3 1/2 and 2 1/2lb on zonker and tadpole patterns.
It was lucky 7's all round for Spennymoors Geoff Wharton,Ponteland's John Sharp and the Cockfield marvel that is Ryan Mathews who all topped the sporting tickets.
Note to all visiting anglers:-There are barriers in place both on the A68 slip road and via Witton-le-Wear due to recent flooding.Witton Castle Lakes remains open and is accessible once you drive through the barriers.Thank you
