Default Packington Estate Fishery

Just to let you know after setting of early for a days trout fishing at Packington I arrived only to find the Cocks Close ( Day ticket lake) is closed for the foreseable future, as this was not highlighted on the estate website I had no way of knowing hence a wasted journey. Is anyone able to recommend trout venues in or around Birmingham preferably not faceless reseviors as an alternative.
Cheers

I sympathise about Packington..I'm a member and obviously know the day ticket water has been closed. It is mentioned on Rutland Ghillies.

A non ressie alternative, that close to Brum is not easy. Elinor is a very nice water about an hours drive away. There is Heathcote near Warwick but that is just a couple of holes in a field.

Lechlade/Busheyleaze is excellent but no C&R.

Although it's a, no longer used, ressie I would recommend Thornton. Doesn't look or feel like a ressie, cracking venue run by one of the best Fishery Managers known to man...Ifor. Just under an hour, over by Coalville.

Cocks Close is only a small water, about 12acres, and in previous years the fish have suffered from the heat.

The good news is that he always reopens with a "Bang" and restocks with some top quality fish.

I fished at Packington a couple of years ago, we attended a conference at the hotel there. I might be back there in September, will it be open by then? Cant they make one of the other waters available for day ticket?

Reopens mid September..not sure of the exact date.
