Sutton Bingham is the water I started fly fishing on in 1980

The Sutton Bingham written about by Brain Clarke in 'The Pursuit of Stillwater Trout' is a very different Sutton Bingham to the one you will find today. Back than the water was generally clear and had huge banks of weed. The fly hatches were fantastic - buzzers, sedges, damsels as well as masses of shrimp. The silt was crawling with life. Then the coarse fish (carp and roach) turned up, the weeds vanished and the water took on the colour of milky tea.
That said the carp and roach numbers have dropped off over the years and there are plenty of trout to be caught, the water's still murky though.
If you prefer rivers then you probably wont like it, I don't any more!
