Default first eel on the fly

well went to craufurdland today and it was slow going, usual excuse too bright, then changed to a black and green fritz lure and bingo a full tailed three and a half pound rainbow, what a specimen and what a fight, well pleased, then things went quiet so i stuck a black an green booby on, two and a bit feet of tippet, varying speeds of retrieve, and all went tight ,****** must be stuck,no i thought i had a sack of tatties on,thing wouldnt come to the surface though, thought this is a boody big one,aye right it was a big one ,an eel about three pounds booby in its gub, luckily a had my pike pliers with me ,got my booby back and returned the snake, god i hate those things,,,,,took a pic of the fish, never got one of the eel though

Eel actually has a higher calorific value than salmon and is delicious smoked. I once caught one on a dry fly on the Monnow. I could hear a continual noisy rise on the far side as the light was fading, crossed over and crept up behind a weedbed to see an eel lying on top of the weed slurping down midges and a CDC pattern was taken as nice as you like.

I had been spared to see another spring, and I thank God for it.”
