Default Wellsfield

Was going to try Wellsfield fishery over the next month.
Does anyone know how it's fishing at the moment and whether it's worth a days fishing or recommend other spots around this area.......

Wellsfield at Denny?
Was there Sunday with son no 3 and 3 of his pals. First time for me! trout were in reasonable nick for stockies, but i didnt fish main fly ponds (see post "old dog new tricks" in general discussion). Did see other anglers who seemed to have their share coming off top pond though.
regards
bert.

tried wellsfield for this first time this morning. started in the first pool you come to, looking toward the ticket office.
had a fish first cast on the slow glass and a wee olive mini lure ( size 10 wet fly hook, lime green lumi bead head, short olive marabou tail with olive micro fritz body )
ten minutes later and i was into another slightly larger fish. to make more of a morning of it, i switched to the floating line and tried various hoppers and cdc's but no interest was shown, by now it was quite warm and the sun was very bright though.
i swapped the cdc'sfor a weighted version of my wee olive mini lure and was once again quickly into my third and final fish.
the three fish weighed just over 7lb's and were all fin perfect, not the best fight out of them but that could perhaps be down to water temperature or time of year. an enjoyable couple of hours.

yip,its dead easy to find, you come off the motorway at stirling services, take the turn off for denny at the roundabout and its on your left after a couple of miles.
there are two pools, both about a couple of acre. the one further away sits higher up and isnt very well sheltered but the one i fished was ok.
seems to be a good head of fish in there so your always in with a decent chance of a fish

I fish Wellsfield (weekly) all through the winter, i like the fact theres no C & R excellant quality fish, never had a bad tail thats more than i can say for other local fisheries............. Also dont get the torn mouths either

I like the fact of the two fly ponds if one "switches off" the other will normally still give up fish

Dont fish it really during the summer but in winter the fish are often right under your rod tip i see so many guys cast to the middle when the fish are at there feet ! Hare ear fished slow and deep through the winter normally takes my limit
