Default bratton water

I have just been on holiday in Devon, and my wife thought it would be good to start fly fishing,,,,,

So we had booked a lesson at Bovery Castle, Excellent tuition from Paul of Fly-fishing Devon....
http://www.flyfishingdevon.co.uk/index.htm
That was on Tuesday,

We then spent the afternoon Saturday at Bratton Water near Dunstable, Devon, my wife caught two rainbow trout, 3lb 12oz and 4lb 4oz - we used the fisheries owners hire kit, 9' rods , 6/7 weight line, 6lb leader.. no idea what flies we used........
One of the fisherman on the lake, provided some excellent guidance and help to get us started, which was most unexpected....

we had an excellent afternoon out today.....
we loved the natural environment and surroundings to this lake.
I will be going back again, when we come back to Devon on holiday, which we do at least once a year

not a cheap afternoon out, although looking at my Home town in Surrey, its alot more expensive at home !!!!!! oh well,
Rod License - £3.50
2 fish ticket £18
Hire £5
we purchased a selection of flies £2
each....

off to Hart flyshop on the way home, if its open, to look/buy some gear....

Bratton Water is near Loxhore Devon,

Default expensive?

you can buy a yearly rod license £25 or thereabouts and fish frensham in churt, surrey £20 for a 2 fish ticket then you can fish on catch and release. where else can you have a day out for £20? and you get a couple of dinners if you are lucky.

good luck, jon.

Thanks very much wye_wizard, that sounds great, I have looked them up, and just up the road ...

Well on the way home, we purchased some kit at Harts Flyshop, Somerset
Excellent service and very knowledgeable sales assistant Lewis helped us..

We tried the Rods out on ther lawn, and got some great tips to help our casting....
I had looked at other shops around north devon, but noone let us try the rods and cast ..

so we purchased enough to get us going

a couple of Grey GRXi 9' 5/6 rods and a couple of Greys GRXi reels
all complete with backing, floating weight forward line, and leader
plus a few other extras, flies, net, etc etc

We are all set to go on our own kit now...
