Default Farmoor 1

Hi,

Has anybody fished Farmoor 1 recently? If so any advice on what to do where to go would be appreciated as I am planning a trip on Sunday.

Many Thanks

Steve

I fished Farmoor 1 yesterday morning. Reservoir is full but water is pretty green and visibity is low, 2 or 3 feet max and difficult to spot the close in cruising fish. Bit of an algae bloom along the causeway so I fished the NW corner. Had 2 fish early on before a forced break to shelter from lightning and torrential rain. Had another fish before packing up at 12.30pm. Weighted orange blob on intermediate for all 3. Quite a few followed the blob right into the bank and missed a few good takes.

Catch return book showed a fair few fish caught on Thursday. I had the place to myself.

can anyone tell me how this venue responds to top of the water tactics? looking to give it a go soon. i have never even set foot at the place so really any info will be very helpful.
i never fish with a sinking lines or lures and dont use rods above a 6wt but dont moan if i dont catch(just my way but appreciate others do). i know this will limit my catch but i just love floating line fishing.

I fish Farmoor 2 regularly, and it can be a splendid Top of the Water mark!!
Daddies, Claret Hoppers and Klinks all go well there from June or so right through till the end of September.
Generally I will use a Daddie on the point with a Hopper about 6 feet up the leader, I use about 15 Ft or so of leader overall, or when it is just nicely rippled a pair of large klinks (10/12) go well.
I cannot say this would work on Farmoor 1, but I would imagine it is worth a try!!
Good Luck

Hi,

I fished Farmoor 1 for the first time on Fri 21st and really enjoyed myself. The weather was coolish and changeable with showers in the morning, yielding to fresh breezy conditions for the remainder of the day. I arrived for an afternoon session and caught 4 fish between 4 & 6 lb, all in very good condition and hard fighting. I missed a few takes and lost a much larger fish which managed to get free of the hook - I reckon it was 7 or 8 lb.

Water visibility was ok and cruising trout were visible in the margins. There were rising fish further out but only when there was cloud cover. Lots of fry in big shoals close in.

Rig - 9'6" 7/8 rod, with 7WF floating line and 15ft 8lb flourocarbon leader, with 1 dropper approx 4ft from point fly.

I fished the causeway about a third of the way up from carpark 4. It took a few combinations to get some takes but finally got fish on Holo Red Diawl Bachs - initially on the dropper with a black buzzer on point, then a team of DB's on both point and dropper. The takes were aggressive and usually within 15 yards of the bank with a slow retrieve, so no need for mega-casting. I packed up as it got dark but there were lots of fish rising at this time as a flat calm developed, with a good hatch of buzzers underway, so I guess suspender buzzers and Shipman's could have worked also.

Overall very enjoyable and I shall return to seek out the one that got away !!
