Default Rutland or Grafham

Hi

We did a similar trip last month and had the dilemma of Rutland or Grafham.

If you are driving, my suggestion is to do both - they are about 60 minutes apart.

It depends where you are staying....

We did Rutland on the Thursday and the Friday (leaving Grafham to the Saturday as we thought Rutland would maybe be a bit like a circus at the weekend.

Not Disappointed!!

On day 1 at Rultland it was teaming with fish on the south arm - Around bouy P I was taking a lot of fish on dries (cdcs) - the fish were mainly feeding on a fall of daddies however. I finished with 13 including a nice brown.

On the Friday, the same tactics previaled for the morning, but the sun came up and killed the sport. I switched to the main basin drifting into the church where Fry feeders were lurking. Took fish on Dabblers and on Fry Patterns (buy the light grey one on sale at the shop). Excellent sport but watch out for smash takes.. Finished with 19 on the day.

Saturday at Grafham was interesting - the far shore seemed to be the most popular area but not a lot really was doing - picked up a few fish on Diawl Bachs and a floater.

In the afternoon, headed down to the dam wall on the nearside - really good quality overwintered fish lurking here around the 3 to 4 Lb mark and fin perfect. took a few off the surface. Watch out for the big bream also!! double figure monsters milling around but I couldnt get one!.

From my experience, and you can only get to one water, for lots of action do Rutland, for possibly better quality, do Grafham.

with the three day trip you can easily arrange both. The set up Anglian Water have is terrific and they are most accomodating. For info we stayed at the Old Pheasant and the deal was brilliant. 10 minutes from Rutland and around an Hour to Grafham.

Hope this helps...

Anglian Water do a three day boat ticket that lets you visit any of their waters, it a bit of travelling but try Ravensthorpe on the way home. , Rutland (just off the A1) south to Grafham (just off the A1) back north up the A1 for 10 miles onto the A14 west to Raventhorpe Just off the A14 5 miles from the M1 north)?
