Thumbs up Gludy Lake

Just wanted to say, a group of us (6 inc 4 novice fly fishermen) experienced a great day's fishing and night's stay at Gludy Lake on Saturday.

We caught over 20 fish (rainbows, blues and browns, a nice mix) on a mostly hot and flat calm day to buzzers and nymphs, the lake was in good condition and there were plenty of taking fish and lovely surroundings.

So, thanks to Chris and his relaxed hospitality, its a venue i would recommend and one we will be visiting again.

Last time I fished Gludy was about 7 years ago. They had a big problem with pond weed and lillies the last time I was there which really put a downer on our day. It was so bad that it made the top end of the lake unfishable until you got level with the house.

Even getting out of the boat house was difficult - we had to turn the motors around and chop our way through it.

Has it improved??

Having said all that I've had some excellent days there and am yet to blank. I even caught there with snow on the ground and water freezing in the eyes of the rod. My biggest fish there was a 8lb 10oz taken on a floating fry pattern at last light. The bigger fish would come out of the cover of the trees at dusk and hammer the flies.

I've said I'd give it another go this year so I'd be interested to hear your views on the place.

Thumbs up Gludy

i can second that...... The last time we booked, the whole lake was fishable, only some reeds around the bank.
Infact some of the bigger trout we had were close to the reeds on damsel nymphs, provided some good sport.
The first time we went was also 6 or 7 years ago, when there was alot of canadian pond weed (i think), but this is no longer the case.

I can highly recommend a Gludy trip to anyone.

Stu
