Default Llyn Alaw

Does anyone have any pointers to Llyn Alaw, I've searched the tinternet and there's very little info on the water at all.
I'm planning a day there in a couple of weeks for my Dad and me, we're going to do a couple of days on Brenig but I fancied a change and we're looking at a day on Llyn Alaw also. Should we get a boat or is there plenty to fish from the shore (we both have chest waders too) Other than it's not very deep and I'm expecting it to be a bit breezy, flies, tactics, areas to fish?

Thanks!

MintSauce.

Mintsauce

can't help you with Llyn Alaw but if your staying around the Brenig area have you considered Tal Y Llyn?? Less than an hours drive from Brenig.

I agree, with FJ go give Tal y Llyn a go. I've visited Alaw, but never fished it, it does not come close the beauty of Tal-Y-Llyn. Tal-y-Llyn is all brownies and very special.

If you go there take a loaf of bread and chuck some into to the water by the car park, wait a couple of minutes and watch for the monster trout that come snatching the bread!! It's worth going just to feed the fish and dream that you might catch one one day. Did i mention there's a bar in the hotel just 20 yards from the water.

Cheers

Andy

Andy

I did exactly that earlier today, I took the kids to Tal Y Llyn promising them that they would see big fish and all we ended up doing was feeding the ducks!!

They were around most of the day but were probably full up by the time we got there.

But definatley worth a visit.

Cheers guys… Tal-y-Llyn sounds very tempting, but it’s a bit of a slog over the top from Rhyl where I’ll be based (1hour 40 according to google maps, I suspect it’s more though) I’ll have to convince my Dad as it’s getting great press on here and looks stunning! How many boats do they have and would we need to book mid-week, probably Tuesday 7th July.

1:40 is probably about right, maybe a little less. I live near Prestatyn (the next town to the north of Rhyl) and it takes me about that. We tend to get on the road early and miss the traffic. It's mostly driving on lanes with not too much traffic on them and really lovely landscapes.

When you go over the top of the last hill and the valley in which Tal y Llyn nestles opens up in front of you'll think it was all worth it!!

Ok.. cheers Andy, that’s really good to know! Sounds like it’s a must So 2 days on Brenig, 1 on Denbigh AC waters and a day on Tal-y-Llyn… can’t wait!
