Default Funny old day on Loch Earn

Hi Guys

Popped up to the Earn yesterday fished the cages bay with my buddy, funny old day over cast warm almost flat calm, which i hate when tubing. Give me a big wave any time We both expected the fish to be well up plenty of insect life on the surface, swam round the cages to the wee shallow bay on the far side, i was fishing a cortland clear camo intermediate 12ft fluoro leader cat booby and diawl bachs not long got slammed by a 13" 3/4lb fighting fit feral rainbow superb fight on my 9' 5# Vision 3 zone, little devil kept trying to swim at and under me ended up giving it lots of side strain and finning in circles trying to keep the line tight and not get the fish wrapped around my legs !! Result ? netted the fish, i was soaking from all its tail slapping on the water. Good sport from a fit little fish.

Moments later into another but off almost as quickly kind of went quiet so i headed back round to the slip way were my buddy was fishing and blanking i was pulling the booby back fast watching the wake when it was hit real hard .............sadly a duff knot lost me the fish and booby

My buddy heading far out 800 yards ish !! and promtly hit into a feral rainbow about 3/4 lb on a red damsel lure, he returned the fish (something he would later regret)

The ever present ospreys were very high and not doing much business which made us think the fish were deeper than conditions suggested

After a brief pit stop i changed to a Di3 and a booby thinking id give it 30-40mins within 15 mins of changing and going round the point and with my Di 3 well down a 17" 2lb Brownie "slammed" into the booby so violently i nearly jumped out of the tube ! it tore off like a frieght train heading for the bottom simply buckling over my 9' 5# and making my reel sing ! the power in the fish was just fantastic, i was really just along for the ride, more then playing the thing. Finally i got him up but two or three times i tried to net him it went berserk and dived for the botton simply turning my little rod into a pretzel

Finally, heart pounding and adrenaline pumping i netted my prize my barbless booby firmly planted in the scissors. Ive found boobys on Di3's very effective for the stocked Brownies up there , never had a wild brown on them.

Funny old day , not what we expected excellant sport but sporadic, all in all i cant complain a good day. Enjoyed myself.

got so much to read up on as far as still-waters go but I'm looking forward to finding out all the different methods etc!! and I'm even trying to get my brother who was into fishing a few years ago into fly fishing so i have a boat partner as i like the boat after a night out on a certain place which seems to be in the not to name list .
thats one lovely fish !!,and i have often wondered about float tubing ,is it all its cracked up to be ,,or is it clumsy fly fishing at its worst as Ive heard others say.

Boat !! wash your mouth out im not a fan of boats to much movement for me.

Float tubing ? man best invention ?? got to be pretty close It adds a new dimension to your fishing also give the "fight" another dimension too

Nice report

I'm thinking of becoming a tubeman myself, so this just adds fuel to the fire

PS: I cant swim, that's fine enough yes?
