Marston Wyse
I visited Marston Wyse one of my favourite local venues at the weekend, bright sunlight made the conditions difficult particularly on the two gin clear lakes, with many a follow and no cigar. Although with a slowly retrieved DB, buzzer and damsel nymph, I managed to tease out a pleasing small number of fish and unsurprisingly lost a couple more, great fun.
After being to this venue over the last couple of seasons, as its so convenient, I wondered if anyone else shared my frustrations. I should at first mention the many positives as to be clear ....'I am a fan'
1. Location is great for us fly fisherman near York and Leeds
2. There are some cracking fish to be had
3. The site provides some great shots of wildlife, reed warblers, Owls etc
4. The site is well managed regarding access to lakes and cutting back of land vegetation
Now, I hear you say, what the hells wrong with it...
My frustration is regarding fish numbers on some of the lakes, I have taken the time to observe fish movements in all of the five lakes, using polarising lenses. There are two lakes in particular which show little to no trout at all. I can only presume the owners plan to do something about this as they have taken the trouble to cut back a great deal of bank side vegetation, and add clear named signs indicating to anglers the whereabouts of these lakes. One can only presume to allow for increased access and more frequent visitors. I would hope then that they are planning to also add some fish into the equation..
Aerators may also help this venue ?
Has anyone else visited this fishery and do you share my frustrations ?
