Alderneuk Fishery
I had the good fortune to end up at Alderneuk yesterday afternoon. Willie and Wilma were both there hoping for some customers but sadly they didn't materialise. I had the place to myself for far too many hours. This place is an absolute dream to fish and yesterday, the fishing was only beaten by the quality of the fish.
In all I landed about 7 blues to around 4.5lbs, 3 rainbows to 7.5lbs. I hooked and lost as many again on everything from tiny buzzers to lures and dry daddies. One fish took about 30 yards of line in a screeming run before it turned and spat the hook. Willie reckoned it was a big Tiger but despite hooking a couple I failed to land one of these.
The water is crystal clear so with polaroids, I could see fish reacting to the different flies I tried. There nothing quite like watching a big fish opening his mouth and sucking in a tiny buzzer!
If you haven't been to Alderneuk yet, its well worth a visit. Even if the fishing is difficult, its a great wee place to spend a few hours watching superb quality fish cruising past. Fascinating!
A big thanks to Willie and Wilma for a great afternoon/evening.
