Hi Folks
Well last night was the first time i had my fly rod in my hand trout fishing in over 2 years

indeed i know thats shocking! Anyway, i wanted to target snypes as i know the water and felt i'd have a better chance with my extremely dodgey technique to say i was rusty would be an understatement!
After a few tangles, bunch ups of line, and catching the trees bushes and grass behind me, i finally started to get the line in the water. Along came Mr Cairnie who advised me on my limited choice of flies and he had a cast! within minutes he was into a fish which snapped my 10lbs leader

Yes folks fresh nylon off the spool snapped, A big fish certainly however not helped with my poor playing of the fish.
Anyway things slowed down for me missing a couple of bites and had plenty of follows, but the amount of rises all over the dam were amazing! I have never seen so many fish rising in the one place - i just couldnt manage to get them!
Alex gave me a few flies to try, one which was very similar to the fly i lost my fish on earlier, and after a few casts i was into a fish! Took me about 5 minutes to land it and was a beautiful 4.5lbs rainbow which fought like crazy! I had another 2 rainbows which were returned around the 2-2.5 lbs mark, and lost another one which was larger.
All in all as the light faded i decided to call it a night, it was a great night, i will certainly be back soon - reminded me the joy of catching fish on the fly and after such a long time away my arm hurts today
I know Harelaw gets a lot of good press but in my experience Snypes is certainly worth a try its smaller and less daunting than the larger harelaw in my opinion, certainly somewhere beginners and folks who are have rubbish technique like me can have a great night!
Pic to follow later today
