Default Snypes dam Neilston Trout Fishery great night!

Hi Folks

Well last night was the first time i had my fly rod in my hand trout fishing in over 2 years indeed i know thats shocking! Anyway, i wanted to target snypes as i know the water and felt i'd have a better chance with my extremely dodgey technique to say i was rusty would be an understatement!

After a few tangles, bunch ups of line, and catching the trees bushes and grass behind me, i finally started to get the line in the water. Along came Mr Cairnie who advised me on my limited choice of flies and he had a cast! within minutes he was into a fish which snapped my 10lbs leader Yes folks fresh nylon off the spool snapped, A big fish certainly however not helped with my poor playing of the fish.

Anyway things slowed down for me missing a couple of bites and had plenty of follows, but the amount of rises all over the dam were amazing! I have never seen so many fish rising in the one place - i just couldnt manage to get them!

Alex gave me a few flies to try, one which was very similar to the fly i lost my fish on earlier, and after a few casts i was into a fish! Took me about 5 minutes to land it and was a beautiful 4.5lbs rainbow which fought like crazy! I had another 2 rainbows which were returned around the 2-2.5 lbs mark, and lost another one which was larger.

All in all as the light faded i decided to call it a night, it was a great night, i will certainly be back soon - reminded me the joy of catching fish on the fly and after such a long time away my arm hurts today

I know Harelaw gets a lot of good press but in my experience Snypes is certainly worth a try its smaller and less daunting than the larger harelaw in my opinion, certainly somewhere beginners and folks who are have rubbish technique like me can have a great night!

Pic to follow later today

I have not been to it but from the directions on the site this looks like where you should go. just follow the wee road where the journey stops and that should take you to Snypes.

Default Snypes or Harelaw

I have managed to get a rare midweek 1/2 day from work tomorrow , and a 1/2 day-pass from the wife ..............so plan to enjoy myself and get the fly-rod out for an afternoon and evening session on either Harelaw or Snypes.

Read so much about both fisheries lately, dying to give it a try for myself as its only 5 mins from here in Barrhead

Any suggestions or nudge in the right direction as to which is fishing better?

Regards
d.pat
