Default Draycote - where and how

It's been a while, but finally getting out for the day at Draycote on Saturday (Boat Fishing).

I've only fished Draycote two or three times over the past years so any help on the current 'hot spots' and successful tactics would be much appreciated (it's a club outing, not a comp or suchlike).

Thanks

Hi Brian try here http://www.rutlandgillies.co.uk for up to date info. I've fished it a lot, but not this season. Ring the lodge and Keith the ranger is a fantastic guy who'll give you the state of play - and he's very honest!

Default Draycote

Thanks for the PM Rob and above advice.

Fished in the wind and rain yesterday, but there were dry spells.

Started at Rainbow Corner (top of the wind) and had my first fish on my second cast. Five more followed at regular intervals throughout the morning, two more to my rod and three to my son's.

The water started getting a bit lively so I thought a move down to Toft Shallows would be a good move. Fished in the middle of the Bay for a while with no success so moved closer to the shore by the trees (about 75 yds out) and things improved, mostly for my son. We had 5 more between us, but only one more for me

My son just sits there all day fishing whatever I put on, under a bung, and out-catches me 7-4, casting no more that 15m. He does this regularly, wherever we go. He's not interested in fishing as such, just enjoys day's out now and then in the boat, relaxing and is happy catching or not (but he rarely blanks). I must try less hard when next I'm out

The fish were excellent, averaging at least 3lb, and fought really well. Successful flies were a Red Holo Hotspot Spider (14), Red Holo Diawl Bach (12) and Black Buzzer (12). I fished most of the time with a Snowbee buzzer line (sink tip) or floater and team of three nymphs, but I think the fish must have been deeper than I was fishing in the afternoon, despite one or two fish seen cruising just under the surface, I guess mopping up the emerging flies (which I could not see). There were plenty of Swifts flying around us but I saw very few (if any) actual rises.

Good day though
